Default 10 Things to Do in the D During the Pandemic

Thursday morning is usually when I launch the weekly "10 Things to Do in the D this Weekend", kicking if off by citing Crain's weekly list and inviting you to add yours.

Crain's has not issued one for this week and I can't imagine they will considering the changed environment created by the Covid19 pandemic that has led to public event postponements, cancellations and general discouragement of public gatherings.

In face of that what activities will you engage in? Are there public events you will still attend? How is this changing your life?

For me, I have still my online community connections, DetroitYES first most, for company and companionship.

I'll be skipping my gym workouts but now that the weather is warming I'll be replacing them with forest walks.

I have to think anew. How about you?

Clean and organize my home office so I can work from home for the foreseeable future.

I've never been one to follow the herd so avoiding public gatherings won't be a hardship for me.

I will be reluctantly avoiding a busy Italian market in case any of their patrons have recently returned from coronavirus-riddled Italy. [[I have nothing against Italians.)

We can be grateful the weather is warming. Forest walks sounds refreshing. Take a camera!

I will continue to do as I have done before... work from home, and visit stores 10 minutes before closing or at midnight for those open 24 hours... to avoid people.

Michigan is somewhat lucky in that it is not our tourism season for several months yet. So unlike Florida or California... we aren't going to be hurt by it [[just hope normalcy happens by May).

Of course on the flip side... the automotive parts supply chain is affected.

I've always been an AVID hand-washer, washing my hands before eating, as soon as I hit my door, outside shoes off too. I think of my parents and grand-parents - they went thru many things which must have caused fear at points, and triumphs. They persevered. That helps keep me going!

A bit down with so much cancelled, postponed, or closed. But will use the time to read more, watch more movies and documentaries, get outside to walk more, and maybe get a jump on the spring cleaning.

    Take care!

I only need to stock up on the absolute essential goods....Beer, weed, smokes, and Coca-Cola.

I take a 3 mile walk every day, preferably at St. Clair Metro Park. Lets me relax the rest of the day and binge-watch "Elementary".

I have my first round of golf scheduled for next week. I'm pondering how to handle that. Would seem a safe activity as far as social distance and exposure risk...but then again, it's only golf. Would probably help the mental side of things to get out though....hmmm.

Keep hitting it in the rough and you should be good.

Reading is a solitary, time-consuming activity and you're less likely to be interrupted by others now, so get back into reading books!

A brief search didn't find any drive-in theaters open near Detroit, but this is interesting nonetheless:

Amid coronavirus outbreak, drive-in theaters unexpectedly find their moment.

    Places to go outside:

All of the Metroparks are open. Even the smallest Metropark has miles of trials, plenty of room for everyone.

Belle Isle is open [[though the museums and conservatory is closed) plenty of room to walk around there.

Besides that - open up Google Earth and look for parks around you. We went for a walk around Quarton Lake in Birmingham yesterday.

It's going to be above freezing and sunny today - get outside!

If nothing else, go in this web site and look for ancestors. We're all gonna soon join them.

I thought this was a great idea so I typed in "Ford Drive In, Dearborn" because I know it's active. Interestingly, Google Search has a message that they'reclosed per Whitmer's orders due to the coronavirus.

That would make you more orange than you-know-who. And I would recommend hand lotion.

Don't let anyone touch your balls and you'll be fine.
