    Default Gilbert activities in Cleveland

Not sure if folks track Bedrock's activities outside of Detroit, but there are big things brewing in downtown Cleveland. DG has his hands in some of these.

    Tower City becoming City Block
“The vision is for City Block to soon occupy a substantial portion of The Avenue Shops at Tower City Center, bringing together corporations, technology start-ups, venture capitalists and the broader community in a world class entrepreneurial center for the purpose of moving Cleveland and northeast Ohio to the forefront as a top five relevant technology city,”
Sherwin Williams HQ + R&D potentially on Bedrock-owned site
Bedrock/SHW riverfront: The site includes about 2.7 acres of Bedrock Cleveland-owned land, between Huron and Canal roads, and between the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse tower and the Tower City Center Riverview entrance. Next to it, SHW owns 9.2 acres between Canal and the Cuyahoga River. It is where SHW's John G. Breen Technology Center is located and where SHW was founded 153 years ago.

This is great that Gilbert is also a catalyst for downtown Cleveland. Gilbert made ALOT of money off of the Lebron James-led Cavaliers that went to the NBA Finals every year from 2015-2018.

He is also funding a huge $100 million renovation of the Cavaliers home arena [[now called the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse) attempting to bring it up to par with the LCA.

He also recently sold his casino in downtown Cleveland.

Is there any city not striving to be a top technology city these days?

So a Detroit development company will profit from this Sherwin HQ. Cool.

There was a lot of public backlash against the fieldhouse renovation. Lots of behind the scenes PR from the DG team to pull one over the taxpayers - but that's just de rigueur for urban stadia/arena development nowdays.

It would be like not striving to be an industrial center in 1900.

Couple of things I really like about what I know of Dan Gilbert [[and I wish we knew more about his health...not sure about that) is that he is a Midwest entrepreneur. And he makes no suggestion that he isn't out to profit from it. But it seems there aren't enough like him in the Midwest [[sort of have to exclude Chicago despite their issues). This region should and could be thriving.

Is that an opinion or a fact?

Its good they are doing this for Cleveland, I am there very often. Tower City, is a very nice looking area, and had lots of retail, restaurants etc. however a recent review of the area has shown the areas retail area emptying at a alarming rate, and restaurants closing..The Gilbert City Block project will hopefully fill in these large amounts of empty areas. Its similar to the large redevelopment of older buildings Gilbert has committed to and has accomplished in Detroit Downtown. If the Hudsons site is developed in a similar fashion as proposed, it far outpaces whats going on in Cleveland presently, Gilbert wisely, is developing both cities nicely. The amount of development here is by no means inferior to whats going on in Cleveland.
