Default Tallest Parking Garages in Detroit

Some colleagues and I have been discussing parking garages in Detroit and wondering which is the a) tallest in height, b) largest by number of spaces, and c) tallest by number of floors. Also, wondering if there is research on how high up people are willing to park in practical terms. Your input and support are most appreciated!

Off hand the Greektown garage comes to mind. Going up that spiral can make ya dizzy sometimes!

I should add that I think the Z garage is 10 floors and the BCBS garage and garage adjacent to the Fisher Building are 9 stories.

My guess would be the Greektown casino garage at 13 floors. It’s all garage where other downtown structures have a level or more of retail comprising those stories.

The Greektown hotel structure is almost certainly the tallest, but it is on a relatively small footprint. I dont know for sure, but I would bet the MGM garage has the most spaces. The Motor City Casino garage is massive as well. It actually haves two halves, with a 2 level bridge connecting it to the other side of Temple Street, and wrapping around the hotel...not to mention the new massive expansion they have planned.

Greektown's is the tallest at 13 floors and 162 feet. It has 2,858 spots.

MGM Grand has, by far, the most spaces at 5,625 spots.

Runners up for tallest are the 1001 Woodward Garage at 12 floors, One Campus Martius Garage at 148 feet and 10 floors, and the Merchants Row Garage at 140 feet and 11 floors.

I wouldn’t doubt a few suicides have happened but I don’t think they’re happening all the time.

They added preventative fencing at the top of the Greektown garage after the last batch of stories.

The One Campus Martius garage has 10 above-ground levels and two below ground levels.

Dig it. When we're talking money in comes the justification and obfuscation. Bad endings must be kept on the 'low-low' when possible!
