More great leadership from Chief Craig. SMH. Let's be real, a little OT is good for Officers making 45K a year. But this shit?! And Craig is second in line for being Mayor if something happens to Duggan. DPD needs a wakeup call.

Six officers at ~$100K overtime each would be the equivalent of ~12 additional full time officers on the streets.

That's 90 hours a week. Gives a whole new meaning to being on guard while we sleep.

The average police officer salary in 2018 was $65,000 with K-9 units being higher.

So was it an internal investigation that was brought on by checks and balances in the system or in another way?

Outside of the $1,912 in regular overtime pay, which we do not know the details, the rest seems to be job related which anybody working in the civilian world would also expect to be reimbursed for.

I am guessing that the investigation will reveal

    Abuse within the system
There is a shortage of K-9 units within the department based on demand causing the overtime.
It may be more cost effective to pay a few overtime then to hire more based on demand.
The length of time the alleged abuses occurred.
    Is DPD Union?

I think what would be more concerning is if it was not an investigation that originated within the department.

Back in my day [[Victorian?) any overtime was compensated at time and a half time off. No extra pay until the mid '70s. I had no problem with it; enjoyed building up some hours for an extra day or two off.

^ you got to ride around on a cool motorcycle though, what did you do in the winter?

Did they also pay overtime when you had to show up in court as a witness after catching the perp?

You've got to take into account benefits and other costs, but yeah, we could have hired a few more cops.

It certainly is deserving of scrutiny to make sure it's the truth.

Is there time-and-a-half or double time for overnight / holiday shifts that could make the actual number of hours per week worked a little lower than 90?

Even better will be the excuses given.
I know that they are under payed but when do you look in the mirror and say I’m part of the problem?

Worked cars in inclement weather. Which was most of the winter, but those few sunny and dry [[if cold) days saw the bikes on the road again.

Court time was given back at time and a half in time until the '70s, when you could get overtime pay after that if desired. Pay or time off was optional.

As to the original topic in this thread, methinks something stinks in Denmark. Or DPD HQ, whatever the case.

Could see a firefighter living in the station doing that more than a cop. I bet he 'lives' in one of the few mini-stations still around.

Article says "1,912 HOURS" of overtime pay [[not dollars),... which probably works out to about $66,000. for that one line item alone.

That officer is going to need to show proof that he/she was really working some 130 hours a week,.. every week of the year.

So with only 168 hours in a week,.. we're talking about working all 165 days in a year, and sleeping less than 5 hours a night, and never eating a meal, going shopping, taking a shower, doing yard work, etc.)
