Those are the 2 vehicles I own as well.

I suppose it would make sense for their flagship vehicles to have the least amount of problems.

They have a bad habit of shooting themselves in the foot though.

I have a Ford built 1997 Jaguar XJ6,3 year run 95-97,approaching 130k and outside of general maintenance never a major issue,the supercharged version 0-60 in 6 seconds,not bad for a full sized sedan,the reliability was unheard of when it came to Jags.Some are approaching the 400k miles.

So what do they do? 1998 they stick a V8 in them that took 5 years to figure out and killed the brand in the process.

During the fuel crises in 1973 my father bought a new Pinto s/w with wood grain sides, because he had to go from the suburbs to the city and the fuel costs and advailblity made it feasible,it was actually a good little car,until somebody dropped a transmission in the road at night and he ran over it.

I took my drivers license test in a 1967 Chevy at age 16 with a bad heater core in -20 winter,I learned new swear words from the driver test guy.

My friend has a new f250,it is a nice truck and can pull some weight but when it breaks with an electronic failure,they cannot figure out how to fix it.

That is going to be the issue with driverless vehicles,it will take years in order to get them right,but the public will pay for the learning curve.

What year was it? I think the early ones were designed to self destruct before 60k but at the same time the UK version was a highly desirable and reliable car.

^^^ I don't recall but I know it was not an early model as I was working at Ford at the time and heard those were not built to last long.

I think that Ford builds some really nice durable vehicles these days. I haven’t had one since the mid 80’s and that particular Thunderbird was a disaster. I do not think that the cars and trucks they produce now are the equal to or better then what Honda or Toyota sells.

I test drove an F150 Laredo about a week ago and it was just about fantastic. I don’t need a pick up or a vehicle that large but what I need and what I want are two different things.

^ I drove my friends f250 4x4 a few times and it is a nice truck,his wife traded in at the same time a 2018 f150 for a what I think is a baby explorer,it drives nice.

Her F150 with the V6 turbo would go sideways in the rain if you stomped on it because it was so light in the rear end and it had a little annoying button that you had to keep turning off so the truck would stay running at a traffic light.I guess that comes from driving cars in the past that shut off at a traffic light the first response was o sh** what now panic.

They never told her about the button and she was taking it back to the dealership for repairs until we googled it and found out about it.

The 250 was out the door at $72,000 which to me would be a perpetual trade in every 7 years,maybe by design.

I like to fix what I own and it scares me to think of what is going to happen with the truck built around a computer aspect and some of the dealership repair bills are downright scary.

If they built one with a 7.3 liter and Alison transmission and no electronics I would maybe interested.

Outside of the Toyota or Honda,I have been left in the side of the highway on quite a few of the lower end imports and the road noise is atrocious.

Another friend has an older V8 Titan and he has beat the hell out of that truck commercially and it still keeps on ticking,I think that would really be the only contender for Ford or GM trucks.

Domestic big trucks and suv's are the only vehicles that have a leg up on foreign automakers. I saw where the Dodge Ram has surpassed the Chevy Silverado as the 2nd best selling truck [[if you don't combine Silverado and GMC Sierra sales) behind the Ford F-150 for this year.

Domestic big trucks and suv's are the only vehicles that have a leg up on foreign automakers. I saw where the Dodge Ram has surpassed the Chevy Silverado as the 2nd best selling truck [[if you don't combine Silverado and GMC Sierra sales) behind the Ford F-150 for this year.

Larger discounts on that Ram you referred to. Also, from what I understand Chrysler is more liberal with their financing.

the stop-start gadget is the worst thing since the designated hitter. unfortunately the EPA mandated CAFE standards are killing all of the automakers. unfortunately there isnt the profit to be made on small cars, hence FCA, Ford and GM killing off their small car lines. the imports can continue because their auto industries are very heavily subsidized by their governments...

the stop-start gadget from my understanding, will be in every vehicle starting 2021[[?) or '22 and the ability to disable it will no longer be there...

It also doesn't hurt that they can sell these small vehicles in higher volume because customers perceive them to be higher quality [[perception is reality).

The funny thing is,the more they restrict owner access for the ability to control thier own vehicle,they open the door for somebody with a smart phone to control everybody else’s.

Back in the 70s we used to ponder if the Japanese were installing tiny explosive devices in the fuel tanks of thier imports and could set them off with the push of a button.

Sounds crazy sure but soon all the vehicles will be controlled by satellites,satellites can be hacked or taken out,you could immobilize an entire country in seconds.

Not me though if I am still around,my boat motors and vintage truck still have the original points system.

I could sit off of the coast fishing and watch the chaos unfold.
