The Detroit Jazz Festival is a yearly treat. I can't explain how great I feel each year to see the huge crowds ---of every color and nationality --- enjoying this free musical gift. A totally different vibe from Arts, Beats and Eats, this festival possesses a knowledgeable base, enjoying everything from Stanley Clarke and Pat Metheny to John Pizzarelli and Macy Gray [[who offered up a superb jazz vocal performance). It would take too long to discuss this year's highlights. Forty years and it gets better each year. A big thank you to the organizers. We talked with people from Ohio and New York, who make the Fest a destination each year. And for people watchers, there is no better place.
