    Default Comerica Park Address

    Greetings all!
Just out of curiosity, how is the address of Comerica Park listed as 2100 Woodward Ave., when it actually sits on Witherell St.?

I guess the same reason that the City=County building is listed at 2 Woodward, when the entrance faces E. Jefferson.

Even though you're correct, it doesn't look as odd as long as there's just those two parking lots between the two streets. It's almost as though there was never any intention to develop them.

The stadium property extends over to Woodward. The stadium authority owns those two parking lots as well as the land to the north where the two parking garages are.

In New York, several prominent buildings have addresses on high profile streets, even though the buildings are not actually located on those streets. For example, "432 Park Avenue" is a super-tall condominium building on E. 56th Street. The front entrance is virtually mid-block between Park and Madison; yet, it has a Park Avenue address. I guess they call them "vanity addresses," which supposedly add value to the buildings. Wealthy New Yorker's would rather be able to say they live on Park Avenue than E. 56th Street.

Perhaps that was the thinking with Comerica Park; a Woodward address would be more recognizable than Witherell.

Perhaps this is the reason why the Ilitch family does not want to develop those lots on Woodward. "Well, uhh... we'd have to change the address of the ballpark. Also, the government hasn't offered to pay for it."
