Default MDOT gearing up for Amtrak property RFP in Detroit

    source

The Michigan Department of Transportation is nearing a request for proposals for a key property in Detroit's TechTown area.

The end result would be a new intermodal transportation facility, the department said, and developers have long salivated over tacking some mixed use on the property along with it across its 3.1 acres. That's about 50 percent larger than the Hudson's site downtown.
    could be pretty exciting

Curious to see how this ties together with the possibility of Amtrak restoring service at MCS and a Detroit-Ann Arbor commuter train.

So the QLine would be even more pointless without the Amtrak connection.

When will someone figure out that all these transit elements need better connectivity?

    People Mover
    Rosa Parks Transit Center
    Michigan Central Station [[Ford)
    Amtrak New Center
    QLine
    DTW
    Ann Arbor-Detroit-Pontiac commuter rail
    Dequindre Cut-Riverwalk-Joe Louis Greenway

They are starting to figure they need to step up thier game,Virgin US is connecting Orlando to Miami and Tampa, speeds are still limited to 125 max and it only shaves an hour at best off of the trip.

They say that Amtrak only has a couple of profitable routes,Virgin is privately funded,it makes one wonder if they could co-mingle and really get serious about real transit solutions.

    So that translates to

    Amtrak Gov
    Virgin Private
    Musk Gov/private

Its already up and running. The extension to Orlando is coming soon. They are still working on all the approvals for the Tampa line.

Brightline is the company who sold the naming rights to Virgin when they became a minority partner.

Same company also bought XpressWest that is planning the LA-Las Vegas line.

It’s a matter of the fuel pipeline that runs down the medium of I4 from the port of Tampa to the storage tanks in Taft,I would hate to be the one to poke a hole in that during construction.

The Hispanics use the 15 passenger vans etc. and do Tampa to Miami and Orlando to Miami for $20,the new one was offering as a promotion for $5.

But it is always the case of what happens when you get off,you still have to have that infrastructure in place.

There was a 40% + increase in public transportation usage when gas hit $4 per gallon,I think if the states actually passed gas taxes for infrastructure like they want to,people would just jump on public transportation and cancel out the increase.
