    Default bachelor party suggestions

    good morning.

so i've been lurking on this board for years and loving it, but i've finally got a question that someone else hadn't asked.

i moved to brooklyn for a job three years ago, so i'm somewhat out of touch with the nightlife in the city so i'm hitting you guys up for advice. i'm planning a bachelor party for my brother and was looking for bar suggestions. it'll be september 19th, so if there are any events, i'd appreciate info about those as well.

the plan is to tailgate, then go to the UM/EMU game and then head back to our homebase/hotel [[got a room at the book cadillac). from there, we'd want to a decent dinner. quality food, but not stuffy atmosphere. there are tons of places like this in nyc [[where i live) and la [[where he lives), where you can get a great meal, but won't be looked at funny for wearing jeans and tennis shoes. any suggestions within walking distance or a short cab ride of the book? after dinner we're going out, but no clubs or cheesy bars. probably start at foran's since the owner is a good friend of a friend and i haven't been there since when he just started working on it, and then go from there. any similar bars with a good scene and laid back, style would be great.

thanks again [[for the advice here and all the posts i've been reading for years)

Not knowing your tastes and adventure level, it is a bit difficult to point you in a particular direction; however, you will find a great meal at Wolfgang Puck's grill inside the MGM Casino. They say the dress code is "smart casual", so toss on a sport coat with an oxford cloth button down, and you should be fine. Considering you'll be dining very early, I can't imagin a problem as long as you don't stumble in with UoM sweatshirt and a foam#1 finger.

If it is a "local" place you crave, and you like sushi, try Oslo on Woodward. While the gay clientele may conflict with your breeding nature, the food is very good and the atmosphere is casual.

Small Plates on Broadway is another option. Great food, locally owned, and an interesting atmosphere. However, since the Phantom of the Opera is playing across the street at the Opera House that night, so it could be busy. call ahead.

Next door to Small Plates is the Detroit Beer Company. Causal, good beer selection and a fine menu. No shame in Dining there.

If you'd like to do some cuban, try http://www.vicente.us/ It is down the street and a block over from SmallPlates/DetroitBeer ... on Library Street. Haven't been there lately, but it gets good reviews.

You can't go wrong at any of those places.

After dinner, you said you wanted to pub crawl. I suggest you hire a cab for the evening instead of trying to pick up cabs willy-nilly. Plan to drop $125 - $150. He'll escort you around, wait outside of your various stops, and get you back to the Book in one piece.

After your start at Forans, walk north up Woodward and take the first right, head straight towards the Old County Building and go to the Checker. Tell the gals behind the bar, you want to rent a cab for the evening. They'll fix you up.

I'm sure others will chime in with more suggestions.

You're right, BillyB, it may have been un-pc of me to assume HamBoy was/is of the straight variety, but since the vast majority of the populace is straight, it is a safer bet to make.

I just didn't want them walking into Oslo and being surprised, that's all. Moreover, I'll guess that few bachelor parties take place in gay bars, but then again I could be all wrong about that.

The issue which is truly puzzling ... there were about 20 posts on this thread that disappeared. Same thing on a few different threads. weird
