Default Morgan Stanley: Ford Likely to Announce 25,000 Job Cuts

But unlike GM, the expectation is that majority of the cuts will be in Europe.

I'm more interested in seeing if they actually follow through on that.

Lets be honest you'll be saying this kind of shit after it's fully built and filled with workers.

I have little doubt that Ford will follow through on the train station. The alternative would be really bad for Detroit. GM's autonomous driving division is in San Francisco. Ford's could easily end up there too...

On a related note, I was in SF a couple times this summer and noticed that Ford is the sponsor of their bike share program. Who sponsors MoGo?

That's fantastic news......too bad GM doesn't know that's how it's supposed to work.

In all fairness, since GM has retreated from the world, cutting in Europe wasn't an option for them.

According to a recent Free Press article, Ford lost $208 million in Asia Pacific, $378 million in China, Ford Europe had a loss of $245 million and $152 million in South America. Assuming the “majority” of cuts overseas add up to 20,000 that would leave 5,000 job cuts in the U.S., mainly in Dearborn. That’s just my educated guess but things have got to be grim in the Glass House these days.

That's because GM bought the company that was already there. Ford now has over 200 workers in Corktown and expect at have at least 2,500 when the project is complete which is more than double of what GM's Cruise is now, plus another 2,500 with partner companies. The whole point of these companies restructuring is for their autonomous and electric car endeavors which is what Corktown is. They paid 90 million for the station, they got their tax incentives, there is no reason so suddenly think Ford wouldn't go through with it's investments. It's just Detroit haters crying and hating their personal lives as usual.

Ford doesn't sponsor the bikes in San Francisco I believe that is their own project that has been on going for awhile now. MoGo has a ton of different sponsors including GM and Henry Ford health.

Also, GM announced in November that it will manufacture e-bikes.

    Maybe because there's precedent?

Take for example GM, who has suddenly put all of its renovations on hold and is actuallly selling assets [[such as the Courtyard Marriott). There's also Adient, who cancelled their HQ move to downtown completely after ongoing financial problems within the company.

The Corktown plan is nothing more than an altruistic move by the Ford family, as there's no reason why the work couldn't go intotheir existing facilities in Dearborn or out to California like GM. It certainly doesn't make a ton of sense from a purely business standpoint.

The Ford announcements about the Michigan Central station stressed that they wished to recruit a large number of highly skilled and highly educated specialists, many of them young with advanced degrees in engineering or AI. Their announcement noted that these people now choose to live in cities rather than in the suburban ring. Demographic patterns have changed and few of them will marry or start families at young ages. Housing is extremely costly in the Bay Area or Seattle but the cost of
living is more reasonably in Detroit. There really has been a great shift in how young highly educated people live their lives and select a place to reside.

I bet the workers over there, don't think it's so fantastic.

Weird thought here .... could they be considering running an employee commuter train between downtown and A2? The Dearborn station is basically nowhere from the Glass House and could be an easy shuttle jump.

And there is [[or was) a lot of relatively cheap housing in Wayne that also has [[or had) a station.

This is what Reichfurher Trump said to Ford.

Ford Motor Company wants to cut 25,000 jobs more than General Motors. Well, I will cut their subsidies, too. I will make America Great Again even I have to bring fire and fury to all corporations to create American Jobs.

GM and Ford could care less about Chump's threats. They are going to do what they think is right for their companies.

    Yes, Ford does:

Ford GoBike is a regional public bicycle sharing system in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Beginning operation in August 2013 as Bay Area Bike Share, the Ford GoBike system currently has over 2,600 bicycles in 262 stations across San Francisco, East Bay and San Jose. On June 28, 2017, the system officially launched as Ford GoBike in a partnership with Ford Motor Company

Trump is a lot of things, but I'm not finding where he actually said that.

Ford's [[and GM's and FCA's) problems are due entirely to their own bad management. Tariffs are just the latest excuse. The Asians and Europeans are building plants in the U.S. while the Big Three are closing them.

    LMAO! at Ford's non-denial denial...

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...news-this-week

"CEO Jim Hackett told reporters Tuesday that Ford didn’t provide numbers to Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas, who estimated the significant employee reduction in a report a day earlier. Ford said in July it would spend three to five years on an $11 billion restructuring.

Ford will make an interim announcement about plans for its workforce later this week, Hackett told reporters in Michigan."

The Asians and Europeans might have built a few U.S factories [[Mostly due to the carrot and stick duo of tax breaks and tariffs), but the future isn't exactly looking great for most of them either. Stock prices for almost all the major auto manufacturers have taken a beating the last few years [[Including those based in Asia and Europe). Toyota and Tesla are the only majors that have managed to see their share price not rapidly decline in the last 5 years [[And Tesla still hasn't found a way to make a profit, so take that as you may). Toyota is basically flat since 2012 and the share price is barely back to breaking even with the peak of 2007.

    W. Edwards Deming, a 'father of statistical quality control', wrote [[on the back cover of his book The Deming Management Method):

"Export anything to a friendly country except American management."
