Default A Friendlier Detroit - Lower parking rates ?

Restoration of early ticket payment discount making a comeback.
Detroit will certainly get more visitors, increased business,
    and generate more revenue.

A federal lawsuit exists [[filed late last year) alleging the city
ripped off residents and visitors through
excessive parking tickets and late fines.
The lawsuit is still winding through the court system.

The majority of ticketed drivers, roughly 70 %
have license plates that are registered outside of the city

If you're cheap, like me, there are plenty of places to park without paying a cent.

I only pay for parking when I'm with someone.

Park at the MGM if you're cheap like me. Safe, covered, guarded parking, not that far from downtown destinations.

I agree. There's places to park for free and I'll find them as soon as I drop my wife and her lazy friends off at the door. And when they're not free, the City of Detroit Parking app is a godsend, and it even tells you, depending on the time, if that space is free.

I think the ParkDetroit app is the most friendly tool the city has come out with in years. It is extremely user friendly and allows you to turn short meter parking Into reasonably priced long term parking.

Parking at Greektown is also free, or at least it was the last time I parked there.

Parking at Greektown Casino is only "free" after 11AM on weekdays... after the daily work shift has parked in their "paid" lots and structures. And on days there is a sporting event [[such as the 1PM Tiger opener this year)... parking is NOT free... you need to show your Greektown pass.

I'm not sure if MGM has this instituted, but MGM Casino is so far away from the major activity of downtown, that it is at least a 10 minute walk from anywhere that you would want to go. And if it is free on a game night... I don't think I would want to walk back to the casino at night... especially if you stop at a bar/restaurant first [[after the crowds have generally dispersed).

If you get a parking ticket Downtown or in Midtown, it will run you $45! Using the ParkDetroit App is $1/hour, but most spaces have 2 or 4 hour limits.

I am in favor of retaining the current fee structure...IF...and ONLY IF...they bring back the early pay discount. That's a feature that needs to come back.
