    Default First Date Gone Bad

Police: Detroit man on 1st date skipped out on dinner bill, then stole woman's Chevy Impala

    Aug 28 08:19 PM US/Eastern

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FERNDALE, Michigan - Police say a first date went from bad to worse when a man skipped out on the restaurant bill, then stole his date's car.

Police say 23-year-old Terrance Dejuan McCoy had dinner with a woman April 24 at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. The woman says the two met a week earlier at a Detroit casino and she knew McCoy only as "Chris."

The woman told police that McCoy said he left his wallet in her car and asked for keys. He then sped away in the 2000 Chevrolet Impala.

The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak reports that police identified McCoy by a photo he'd sent to the woman's cellphone, and his phone number.

McCoy is charged with unlawfully taking the car, a five-year felony. He waived a preliminary exam and was bound over for trial Thursday.

Why is it automatically assumed he is responsible for the check?

    Spot on 9Mile,
Obviously this poor man is a victum of sexism and and anti-detroit bias. Those Oakland County women are just too high on their horses to know when a man is being a gentleman and parking her car - for her. Kind of like a valet.

Most women would think that's nice, but them OC women look down their noses at Detroit men and just because he was going to park her car in his garage means nothing. Unfair. Damn. That woman is all stuck on herself just becuase she has a job and stuff. uh uh, just keeping a brother down, I tell you.

And what is all the Ferndale stuff? Obviously her idea to eat in that gay controlled city, another code for keeping a Detroiter down by rubbing his face in that whole DL lifestyle.

She should be begging forgiveness for treating the man in such a poor fashion.

Zakly! Where's the trust? Where's the love? He should just forget her and start a new life as soon as he gets a pen pal.

Not exactly the way to impress a first date. ... I mean, taking her to Buffalo Wild Wings?! Come on!

LOL! Our Mayor may be gay, but he doesn't control the city. While popular, the LGBT community is pretty much a small minority of the cultural composition of the city.

For some reason, everyone always says Ferndale is a "gay" or "hipster" city, but 90% of the people I see in Ferndale are very working class whites or blacks.

I see lots of Chevy trucks owned by old white union guys, lots of black families with kiddies [[especialy shopping), and maybe a handful of young "hip" folk around 9 Mile/Woodward.

    Am I missing something?

You're not missing anything other the played forward of the stereotype of Ferndale residents. Fagdale is a real popular one from more of the "advanced" Homo Sapians in the area. Actually, I think gnomes post was more tongue in cheek [[stop innuendo!) than serious.

Meh. She should have taken him downtown. That way she could have kept the parking garage ticket in her purse, avoiding the whole scene.

Perhaps he insisted on BW3? Either way, an unfortunate situation; however, I would consider the possibility of getting off kinda cheap. I mean, could you imagine what this POS would have milked her out of if they continued dating?

    BW3's on a first date . . . that's a dealbreaker

Goodness, he must talk a good game to get her to pick him up on the first date.

BTW, I'm a strong advocate for meeting at a coffee shop for the first date. If it goes sour fast, easy exit and don't have to wait for a bill. And most likely you can see your car from your seat....

That's a good point. I would have to save that special place for the second date. That way you'd know if she was "The One". lol!

Another good point. Thankfully I haven't had to date in a very long time.

Sooooooo... this could have all been a misunderstanding. Is there a possibility of a second date?

PONTIAC, Mich. [[AP) - A Detroit man has been sentenced to at least two years in prison for stealing a woman's car after skipping out on the check during their first date. Twenty-four-year-old Terrance McCoy was sentenced Friday in Oakland County Circuit Court to two to 10 years in prison.

McCoy pleaded no contest Sept. 18 to unlawfully driving away a vehicle. A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as a conviction at sentencing.

Police say McCoy dined with the 27-year-old Southfield woman on April 24 at a restaurant in Ferndale. The woman told investigators McCoy said he forgot his wallet in her car and asked for the keys. Police say McCoy then took off in the car.

Defense attorney Terri Antisdale says McCoy is a "very nice man who made a bad decision."

Was she walking around with a Kick Me sign on her back when the two of them met at the casino? Giving up car keys to someone you barely know is just plain stupid.
