Default The owner of Bert's Place?

Does someone know who owns Bert's Place? And what happened to the original owner?

Afaik, Bert Dearing still owns it.

As far as I know, Bert Dearing and his family have always owned Bert's, in all of its incarnations. Here is an article about him from a couple of months ago.

I'm not questioning your integrity but would you happen to have a link to that story? Crain's wants me to give them money.

That's kind of old news, going back to Bert's bankruptcy and foreclosure a couple of years ago. But the bar and restaurant have continued to operate as tenants since then.

Apparently, the subsequent sale to the Nelsons that GP Charles is alluding to was completed in April. And earlier this month the Nelsons reportedly spent $20 mil. buying up a number of other buildings along that strip of Russell and adjacent streets as well, as discussed in this Detroit News story from a couple of weeks ago:

Although the story says that the current businesses will remain in place for now, I doubt if they are making such a big buy in one place with an eye towards just continuing to rent to small restaurants and stores forever. I would guess that we should look for big changes along there in the next few years.

After reading your link, I agree with you. Too bad, IMO.

I don't believe the $20M number as a sales price was accurate.

Was Bert's on Broadway part of the auction?
