Default PCB soil St Clair Shores homes

People have to start taking these kinds of
"contamination" issues more seriously from day one.
This has lingered on, and on, since 2000 with no real action

All around Michigan, people have contaminated homes, live near superfund sites, and government does not protect them

We really do not know what is in our local waters, because they [[DWSD/GLWA) can NOT, does NOT, test for the majority of chemicals, period, end of story.

    http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/...oblem_wil.html

EPA has more than 85,000 chemicals listed on its inventory of substances that fall under the Toxic Substances Control Act [[TSCA)

The EPA has trouble even making a Top 10 list of the "common" ones such as
Dioxane, Bromopropane,Carbon tetrachloride, Methylene chloride, Methylpyrrolidone, Tetrachloroethylene, Perchloroethylene, Trichloroethylene

Of course you're safe -- go back to bed, sleepy head.............

There's really no excuse not to. I know our water is fine.

Um... not true.... yes this has been a problem since the beginning of this century... but "no real action" is not competely accurate.

Back in 2003 the state and EPA spent many millions of dollars to remove 24,000 Tons of soil and sediment from the canals and affected area.
    https://www.itrcweb.org/contseds_rem...le%20Lange.htm

... only to have them re-contaminated from the drains and a pollution source supposedly in the Harper Ave. & Bon Brae St area. They have had the federal government involved for years, and spent many additional millions digging up that stretch of Harper Ave. looking for the source of the pollutants.

Originally they thought that there were some transformers buried there, and were leaching PCBs into the ground and drains. However, all that digging did not find the hoped for results. Now they are wondering if perhaps the source of the PCBs wasn't another souce, perhaps as a dust control spray from when many roads in the area had dirt parking lots back in the 1960s and 1970s, as just one possibility.

The problem is that they still don't know the source... and perhaps may never find it.

But the government agencies are not sitting on their hands.

I hope people passed High School chemistry and
aren't intentional fooling themselves with these kits

    Perhaps people don't read enough...........

I for one, will not, and do not believe, the government protects us.
The systems are put in place for bare minimums,
[[negotiable via lobbying by industry) and involve miniscule budgets.

These histrionic filled posts are growing tiresome. The sky is not falling. there is no pedestrian killing spree in Detroit. Just because some cell phone app from DTE crashes it does not foretell the impending demise of humanity. Some people need to take a deep breath and calm down.

Breezed through two years of high school, AP and college chemistry. The reagent tests for heavy metals are simple, cheap and well known. The swimming pool water quality test kits aren't that different. Do you have any evidence that these kits don't work?

Best post on this thread by far. I sure get amused by the gloom and doom people. They must lead very unhappy lives. Just sayin'.

Complains that people follow headline media like mindless sheep.

Posts links to USA Today and Time to prove that there is a water quality crisis in the US.

Well the last time I posted of a FIRE at a Pump House
in Lake St Clair - before - the media printed/posted it,
some wise ass made a huge point of not finding it on Google.

I figured some people need a bit of spoon feeding,
because they don't read the same stuff I do.
Sport scores aren't exactly my priority in life,
attempting to get a glass of pure clean drinking water, is.

My grandmother and father were raised in St Clair Shores. I was told on more than one occasion and by different people that areas of St Clair Shores were filled in with trash and debris from Detroit. Since the land near the lake was valuable and swampy, that's were a large amount of debris was deposited. While digging a three foot deep trench near Harper and Martin, I found piece of glass, ceramic and cast iron about three feet down.
