The Macomb County Political Circus -- The Karen Spranger Show

Macomb County has definitely supplanted Detroit and Wayne County to become the Metro's leading political circus. There have been so many scandals, from both parties, it has become difficult to keep up with them.

The latest comedy was yesterday's ouster of Karen Spranger, a TEA Party no name who rode the Trump wave in Macomb to become elected Macomb County clerk/register of deeds. It is alleged that she lied about her residency in her election filings, listing a Hazel Park house that the county contends had no utilities and was uninhabitable, filled with "wall-to-wall garbage, feces and animals," court records show. She is also alleged to taking her child on the county dime to a convention.

But don't say she isn't colorful, so set your cuckoo clocks, make some popcorn and get ready to watch this saga.

Spranger was unemployed and had no prior political experience when she was elected in November 2016. She was known as a political gadfly in Warren, where she sometimes showed up at government meetings in tinfoil accessories and dark glasses to protest smart utility meters and had been behind repeated attempts to recall at least one local official.

In the years prior to taking over the $108,800-per-year county job, Spranger received public assistance, including a state-issued Bridge card.

She has been a lightning rod for controversy since she took office on Jan. 1, 2017. In her first half year on the job, she got kicked off her county computer for allowing non-county workers on it; fired her two top appointed deputies; sued the county over a litany of issues, and was named as a defendant in three other lawsuits, including a whistle-blower complaint in federal court filed by her former top aides.

She was fined $100 for a county ethics violation; totaled her county car in a crash; filed a criminal complaint about the news media harassing her; and was caught on video pushing storage bins to a construction area before an office move she opposed.

She has also claimed she has been reincarnated and was an aide to Egyptian royalty in a previous life. On Monday, her appointed chief deputy clerk, Jacqueline Ryan [who was kicked out today], told a Free Press reporter that Spranger had written a letter to President Donald Trump and U.S. marshals may be on their way to help.

Lowell, they sure are a couple of kooks. I detect a mental issue, specifically for Spranger. I have a friend that has worked for the county for 30 years. She states that county records are such a mess, that it will be quite a while before things will be back in order.

As a MC resident, I'm incredibly grateful these two and their circus have been told to get packing. Maybe she will take up her crusade against DTE and the smart meters again.

Smart meters really do emit HUGE amount of microwave radiation. The strongest direction is out their back-side,.. into and through the wall they are mounted on.

A friend has a large RF antenna/meter he uses for work, and has tested them.

No clue why they aren't set up to just ping a short signal once a month for billing,.. and when something odd happens, like a huge surge in consumption or the power going out entirely. Transmitting microwave all the time is nuts.

Microwave ovens emit a lot,.. as do the 2.4 gig cordless phones,.. but the smart meters are off the scale on his machine. A bit like a low-powered microwave oven running with the door open.

There are companies that will install a grounded mat on the inside of the wall to absorb most of it.

No, it was a house in Warren near 8 Mile and Van Dyke.

When referring to Mount Clemens, are referring to strictly the county or the city of Mount of Clemens as well?

She showed up at numerous Warren council meetings,

Perhaps those who feel inclined to vote for people like Spranger can do everyone else a favor and maybe just a take a few extra oxys and stay home on election day.

In November 2016? Yes, I do think that. If anything, her being crazy was probably viewed POSITIVELY by many of her voters. She's gonna "shake things up!" These are the same people who listen to Alex Jones. Crazy doesn't bother them.

The difference between city politicians and suburban politicians is that journalists barely ever report on suburban politicians.

Do you know everyone on your school board, or their GPA, or their expertise? Last election for my school board none of the people running had any expertise or professional background in anything related to education or administration or anything like that, I don't think many had college degrees, they were just random people in the community. There was the Detroit school board guy who legally changed his first name to "Reverend" and that was enough to win, but honestly if you did the same trick with "Pastor" in most suburbs I think it'd work there too.

For Detroit's mayoral race we have debates and ads on tv, but that doesn't exist for suburban mayors, and journalists barely report on them. The Detroit city council is barely reported on, and it gets a lot more coverage than all the suburban ones.

One of the benefits to consolidating our municipalities is that it would be easier for journalists to cover our politicans. There'd be a lot more information and accountability, and the smaller number of positions would create more competition and have higher quality candidates.

Or perhaps better, more people who feel inclined to vote against people like Spranger can do us all a favor and get out and vote. The decline of journalism isn't helping much either.

Defiant underdogs can be admirable but once they're in power that defiance becomes counterproductive.

I couldn't care less about this thing, I've watched from a distance. I did see the news conference today with Hackel...and saw Candice Miller smirking condescendingly in the background.

They part of the same hypocracy from which sprang Spranger...and are no better than her, and in some ways worse. Spranger is nuts, what's they excuse?
It's classism, all the filings are saturated with innuendo...bridge card usage, racoons in a derlict address...all official wink and nod that she has no money no power. She don't look like us, act like us...she white trash.

Everybody lived through Kwame lies, felonies...and the clergy went to bat for him [[sad) and got him reelected. That's a public official worthy of being removed. Absent felonies, Spangler is just what the voters of Macomb deserve, she should remain.

The latest filing Ms. Spranger made in federal court is truly scary considering that until a couple of days ago this woman was one of the top 2 or 3 elected officials in a county with a population greater than some states. The filing is true outer space stuff.

One wonders which mental health disorder a politically unbiased professional would consider more serious; the Trump narcissism residing in the White House or the Spranger delusion/paranoia that resided [[she claimed) in the garbage-filled home in Warren. Both of these politicians are clearly not well.
