Where to park at LCA?

Generous friends who gave us tickets to tomorrow's Red Wings game mentioned that parking is "always an issue". Where do people recommend parking?

It's around $40 to park in the garages by the arena. MGM is free and a 5-10 minute walk, which is probably your best bet. You can also park closer to Campus Martius in various garages for about $10 and walk for about 15 mins.

Park at founders for free. It's only a couple of blocks north of the stadium. Boycott the ilitch parking monopoly. I'd rather a short walk and a couple of beers than wasting money on parking.

No it will be a comfortable 68 or so. The refrigeration system only cools the immediate vicinity of the ice surface.

The only time I have been in Detroit since LCA has been open [[the 1st hockey game Sept 24) I parked at a lot near Clifford/Cass and W. Elizabeth for either 20 or 25 bucks.

One can always pay top dollar if they want to park 100 yards from a venue.

In D.C. at Nationals Park the going rate for garage parking is $47 - 49.

The nights are cold [[despite it being spring -- no news there ala this being Michigan). I err on light layers that open in the front should it get too hot once inside the venue. Best to you -- Let us know how things turn out?

I park in Brush Park, on the residential streets...almost always. I've never had an issue. A few weeks ago, I tried to park at Founders, but found it crowded. We parked one block north, at the Peterboro...a small Chinese restaurant. They will let you park your car, and have a guard to watch it. The walk is about 15 minutes...tops.

The only issue i've heard of and been part of, is if you park in the main LCA Garage, Henry Garage or Red Surfaces Lots. They direct all traffic south on Cass to the Service Drive and direct you West to Grand River/75 South/10 North. They had barricades up on Cass and would not let you cross over the freeway overpass. Season Ticket Holders in the garage have complained about the time it takes to get out of the garage when an event ends.

Eat at Harry's Bar [[best bar in Detroit in the opinion of many) just steps from LCA and park for free.

[[Harry's is at the NE corner of Clifford and I-75 from which one can throw a rock and hit LCA.)

Directly across 75 it drops to $20 and continues dropping the further south you go. You can find $5 in some of the lots around Cass & Bagley [[just under a mile walk) and then head down Fort to the Lodge to get out of town quicker.

We just walk from our Lafayette Park neighborhood to woodward [[8 minutes), Qline up for 1.50, [[ good for three hours ), there is lots of freeparking on lafayette, joliet, nicolet etc..Anyone coming downtown could easily do the same. Why get your wallet raped by the Illitch empire or someone, This way, you also get some exercise and burn some calories, something everyone needs.

^^^ Yes, I refuse to pay the -'adjusting' upwards in price as they choose- per event, sky high prices downtown. There are alternates if you can manage a walk to the venues.

I've learned to take a pack of gum, chew that - less calories. Drink water in the car pre-event, go out for adult beverages later........

MGM and Greektown are getting wise to folks using their parking to go elsewhere. Sometimes they screen at some of their parking entry gates requiring you to show your gambling rewards 'card' in order to park.

One of the purposes of mass transit is what you describe.

It isn't necessary, and shouldn't be necessary, for everyone going to a particular venue to park at that site.

I went to the March For Our Lives in D.C. yesterday and almost eveyone took mass transit to get there.

I got home after the end of the program almost as quickly as if I was trying to get home from work in rush hour.

It cost me $2.00 to park at a Metro parking lot and about 4 bucks [[round trip, with a discount) for the round trip subway ride from Northern Virginia.

We didn't buy food or drink inside LCA [[bottled water cost $5 as stated above).

Our mezzanine seats were shallow [[front to back) and narrow. I would not sit in seats like those again, even for free.

We were grateful to our friends for the tickets, but were sad to know that the total cost of "going to the game" would probably be out of reach for many.

If you're coming from the Woodward corridor I recommend you take the SMART 461/462. It has an LCA stop and runs every 15-30 minutes.

My view on sport events is mixed [[I go back to the days of B x W TV):

1). Tickets to sporting events, pro and college [[except EMU ) are too expensive. One shouldn't have to spend a month's food budget to attend a game. When in doubt, buy the food.

2). That said, when I watched my first Tigers' game on a B x W TV, few games were shown each year. So it was pay up or listen on some AM radio. No replays. No multitude of cameras.

So we charge too much and price too many out of the market for tickets, BUT give them free or nearly free access via those nice HD TVs in their homes. Replays. Many cameras.

Someone can watch 16 Lions' games for essentially nothing. Other sports require the purchase access to the local sports network [[Fox Sports Detroit, in this case).

Cup half empty/half full. Complain about the cost of Lions' tickets, parking, bottled water, etc. etc. but one can sit home and watch on HD TV, get some cheap pizza and beer [[or water), etc. and not feel guilty about over-spending.

P.S. I believe the Tigers' will get more $ this year from MLB for national TV rights + local Fox Sports Detroit than they will get in ticket revenues.

MLB [[and other sports) are TV creations.
