    All to common unfortunately.

How about a ammunition/primer tax instituted per round at the point of manufacture or import in the United States with ALL proceeds to be distributed to local law enforcement per-capita?

It will have a exellant reception among the far right because they are vehemently against anyone getting a free ride on the taxpayers back.

Firearm crimes are a expensive problem in law enforcement. A tax to help defray the cost would free up local dollars.

Try to start a tax like that and you would have a run on ammo that would clear shelves and warehouses in nothing flat. And properly stored ammo will last for decades.

Haven't heard anything about that. There is a wooded area not far from campus with a river and trails that many of the kids hang out at. There was talk on campus today, by some of the students, that maybe he killed himself in that area. Could be a possibility since law enforcement has said no one has seen him and as my daughter left to come home, they did see a dive team trailer.

    So?

All ammo in stock or on the ground would triple in price overnight and the dealers and wholesalers would extract high profits from the extremely paranoid customers for a while.

You act like that hasn't already happened repeatedly in the ammo\ gun business. It happens all the time in the ammunition market.

After the tax is enacted the market will adjust accordingly. It always does, nothing to worry about.

There is plenty of room in the business to tax ammunition primers at the point of manufacture or import to raise funds for local law enforcement.

Then we could have something like roads we can drive on instead of picking up the tab for ever increasing militarized police that have so be able to defend themselves against squad sized infantry armed with semi-automatic rifles with quick changing 30 round magazines.

A primer tax would raise the funds for our brave law enforcement officers who aid security for schools, churches, concerts, sporting events, all large gatherings, etc...

In this case of this thread the tax proceeds could help pay for this multi-million dollar manhunt for another guy with a gun on a killing spree which is becoming more frequent and a very expensive burden on the taxpayers.

the helicopters where for Mike Pence; he was speaking at the Book around 5:30, so they had traffic all bolloxed up for his motorcade and were watching from above.

And once the price gets too high, the smugglers will have a field day. Another market opening up just like drugs.

Jesus. I guess I am right that there is a shit load of room to tax primers big time.

People will pay illegal drug prices for ammo? Ammunition gets heavy fast when you start stacking up the rounds...

I was thinking 10 cents a round but you are thinking that people will buy 5.56 NATO by the pound and even the gram?

Whoa! That is some serious tax money that can be made...

No wonder ammunition manufactures are always having shortages and jacking the price a couple hundred percent. There is nothing but margin in the stuff.

1000 rounds of Russian finest steel case 5.56 NATO weighing 25lbs a case at cocaine or heroin prices?

1,200,000 Million dollars! Your not kidding Ipg. There is serious wiggle room to tax ammunition.

Really a tragic story. It sounds like the kid may have had a psychotic break of some sort. The university called his parents to come get him. His father was a Bellwood IL police officer, and it looks like the kid got his dad's gun out of his car and shot him and his mother with it.

Just very sad. You wonder what was going through his mind that told him to
    shoot his parents.
