Default Trump directs Justice Dept to ban gun mods like bump stocks...

    From article:

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says he’s signed a memo directing the Justice Department to propose regulations to “ban all devices” like bump stocks used in last year’s Las Vegas massacre.

MORE: The legal gun device that likely sped up the carnage in Las Vegas
The president is making the announcement to curb the use of the rapid-fire devices during a ceremony recognizing bravery by the nation’s public safety officers.

I'm not opposed to this, but unless Trump is signing an executive order banning all rubber bands it really is just pointless. If you want to see why, just search on Youtube for "Rubber band assisted AR".

Meh,not really pointless,he is doing something without actually doing anything, but some will see it as action being taken and be appeased.

One cannot say he is not taking action, throw a few extra tweets of the day out and next week it will be something else.

No different then banning the parts to convert to fully automatic, anybody with a 1950s Sears mail order bench lathe can make them in the garage.

I remember in shop class while in school we made a cannon that actually worked pretty good, on the lathe.

Well politicians have to at least give the appearance of doing something. There have to be stronger laws, and that should be understood at a bi-partisan level.

ATF has already publicly said that they do not believe they have the legal authority to regulate bump stocks and that any action on this issue should come through Congressional legislation. So the question is, if Trump wants to ban bump stocks, why doesn't he just tell Congressional Republicans to vote that way? Senator Feinstein introduced a bill to ban bump stocks over 3 months ago, Republicans have been sitting on it ever since.

Looks to me like Trump is setting this up to intentionally fail. Trump orders the Justice Department to "ban" bump stocks, some pro-gun group like the Gun Owners of America will sue to overturn it in the courts, they'll win [[when the ATF publicly says "we don't think we can legally do this", that's pretty strong evidence for the plaintiffs), and we'll be back to Square One. Trump can claim that he "tried" to do something, and bump stocks remain legal.

Not only that but how comfortable are you in general when a president can order the house and senate what to do,he can suggest it and they take it up to vote, leagly he cannot really order them to do anything, there was a reason that it was set up that way.

The only thing he can really do is short term appeasement, when you look at what it takes and the process involved to get or ratify a law passed it would take years,Kinda pointless to rally for immediate change from him and expect results or chastise him or any other president,he is not the all powerful and it is the government which moves at a snails pace.

Found it. That's just plain scary.
