For the cup-half-full crowd, what miracles would it take for the Tigers to defy the odds and, say, make the playoffs?

A palimony-besieged Miggy to have an MVP season? A last hurrah comeback-of-the-year award for Victor? The surprise sensational rise of a Jeimar Candedlario or Dixon Machado? Shane Greene becoming a premier closer? All of the above? And more?

At least it was clearly validated it was not a back-ache, but a palimony head-ache which contributed to the total downfall.......

I saw a clip of Avila smiling while discussing Miggy's injury. He was talking about how the Tigers didn't know it was so bad and how Miggy is brave for playing through it. You're having a totally lost season and still owe this guy about 250 million and you think it's alright to cover up injuries? Why weren't the Tigers making this guy see doctors until they got to the bottom of it? His trade value is almost as low as his moral values.

Continue to wear it. The Pistons went back to their logo from the Bad Boys era this season, and I have a sweatsuit that has the previous logos on it. I'm wearing it until either it doesn't fit any more or it somehow gets damaged. Authentic team clothing can be pricey to purchase for such a minor change.

This was another example of Ausmus being a terrible manager. Cabrera should have been shut down in September, or at the least made DH, when the games were meaningless, everyone knew he was injured, and even Ausmus was saying that playing 1st was bad for his back. Instead, he was in the lineup and playing 1st every day. There is a huge investment in him for years to come and he's playing out the string in meaningless games for a team that was 25 games out of a playoff spot and the rest of the lineup was basically a Toledo/Erie mix.

With all of the team doctors & specialists immediately available.....one can only conclude it's more mental [[mistress, alimony, child support, legal fees, depositions, etc) than physical.....?????

Have you seen this video of Isaac Paredes? The kid is huge. He just turned 19. I don't see how he can remain at shortstop or even 2nd. He looks like a 3rd baseman but Candelario is playing well there. They really made a steal of a deal getting these two for Avila and Wilson, who didn't play well and are long gone from the Cubs.

My early take on the 2018 Tigers:

2017 was a total disaster. Injuries, selloff trades, etc. etc. Everything which could go wrong, did go wrong as the team went into rebuild mode.

The keys, in the short run, i.e., 2018, and say 2019, is the health and well-being of Miggy [[2018 and beyond), V-Mart [[2018), etc.

Does V-Mart have anything left for a good 2018?

Miggy. Is he 100% physically, emotionally, etc. etc.??? I owe a friend an apology when I pooh-poohed his comments about Miggy's back problems last March. I replied: Take a few Flexerals and rest a few days. No problem. Afraid I was wrong.

Tigers should have some hitting and some pitching. Not great, but not bad enough to rival the 2003 Tigers team.

    Say 65 - 69 wins???

That's if the pitching holds up, because even with prime Miggy and V-Mart, that lineup scares nobody.

You have to treat the season as a long spring training. Go out and enjoy the nice weather and disregard the score. Cheer for the young players you expect to be on the roster in 2-3 years and hope the vets have good first halves so they can be moved at the deadline.

If this team wins 60 games it'll be a miracle.

They won't be one of MLB's attendance leaders this year.

Might as well give away free tickets and free cars at this point.

All of these posts make it seem like you guys would have preferred playing .500 [[at best) for the next few years before starting a rebuild with nothing left to trade. I couldn't wait to break up those overpaid losers.

No, you're right. They should have fared much better, with those high salaried teams.

Overpaid losing underachievers. Who really didn’t seem to give a shit.

Turning over the keys to Brad Ausmus, a rookie manager, was indefensible. The Tigers best chance to win a World Series was in 2014, when they had a playoff rotation featuring Scherzer, Verlander, and David Price, and it was all for waste. That was not the time to let a new manager learn the ropes.

Aka: Paycheck collectors who care less about winning.....plus, bad mgt decisions. Example: Vmart should have been paid to stay home his last year....develop/rebuild/mentor somebody else!

Also.....hard to believe they raised the ticket prices significantly???

After today is over, the Tigers will be in the middle of the standings. Definitely not in first place or last place... Lol.

Wow, that starting lineup shows the Latin American ascendance in MLB. Seven of nine opening day starters are of Latino descent.
