    Think Harold Castro will be ready for next year? Would rather see the slot go to somebody targeted for the rebuild.....

    Never thought of Castro as more than a utility guy. He doesn't have the arm to play short regularly or any power.

    Vmart seems to have lost interest. For some reason though he is running out more of his ground outs. Also, looks like he has put on some weight recently. Not a great end to a really good career.

    I was against it at first and it won't affect VMart but I hope they put the rule in next yr. that 2 infielders must play on each side of 2nd base. The shifts are killing certain players and there are already too few balls in play between the launch angle emphasis, walks and strikeouts.
    By the way, anybody else notice how badly Stewart is slumping in Toledo? Hitting .220 and .190 last 2 months with 5 homers. Hopefully he adjusts to however they're pitching him.

    With already being shut out 15-times this season & only scoring 1-run vs 3-games w/the A's [[31 innings), plan B or C must be coming soon, very.....

    Tigers have promoted Daz Cameron to Toledo. Hope they're not rushing this guy. He's only 21 and has spent just two months in AA, hitting .285 with 5 homers.

    I can't help but wonder if the Tigers' personnel are really looking forward to October and the end of a miserable season.....along with the players from all the other 'also ran' teams. The only question left this year is whether or not they will hit the 100-game lose mark.

    That was the last few years underperforming team. The sad thing is these guys just suck but are trying hard because almost all of them are fighting to be on a major league roster next year. I spent the weekend at the games - worst 3 games combined I have ever attended. Blow the one game they are leading, lose the next two badly as we sit through rain Sat. and brutal heat Sun.

    Just as I predicted, Tigers will not lose 100 games, with a loss today it's 98!
    More importantly the unintentional tanking means another loss and a Miami win and the Tigers secure the 4th draft pick.

    Wonder if the sale to Gilbert is fiction or non.

    Whether there's any truth to it or not, this all started because some obscure website started a rumor. Then the Freep and others decided to run with it because Gilbert apparently is selling one or more casinos. If he is selling the casinos that's strictly a business decision. He could easily get around the MLB rules by putting them in his wife's name, just as Ilitch did.
    Gilbert might want to own the Tigers but I just don't see why Ilitch would want to sell when that team is at the core of his entertainment empire.

    IMO: Red Wings at the core empire, probably.....Tigers, who lost money 6 out of the last 10 years, questionable. Inheritance tax at 40% of the current team value comes to just $480-500 million, not sure they have crossed that bridge yet? If not, where does the money come from.....same inheritance penalty happened to the Pistons when Davidson passed.

    [[Det News; In May 2013, the IRS levied a tax bill on his estate that totaled more than $2.7 billion, the lawsuit stated. Davidson’s estate went to court to dispute the amount owed).

    The inheritance issue is a good point. We probably won't hear much written about it until Marian passes. The Tigers lost money because they chose to. MLB teams can very profitable by keeping payroll in line with revenues, something Chris intends to do. Fortunately for the Tigers there are no Red Sox and Yankees in the Central.

    The same record as last year 64-98. Last year they finished 5th. This year they're 3rd with the same record which indicates how weak the AL Central is. However, the Indians, the Central's division leader, has the same record currently as the Rockies & Dodgers, and one game better than the Braves.

    Mike Ilitch most certainly did not just put the casino in his wife's name. Marian Ilitch is one of the world's richest self made women. She and Mike were partners in Little Caesar's from the beginning. She could certainly have afforded to buy most anything she wanted to, with or without hubby.

    While Jennifer Gilbert does own a couple of online companies, she was not a partner at Rock Financial or Quicken Loans, so she probably does not have the net worth required to own either casinos or sports teams on her own.

    It's not that easy...

    Geez, it wasn't a shot at Marian Ilitch's business acumen. The fact is MLB was happy to have the casino in one spouse's ownership and the team in the other to get around their supposed gambling rules. The Gilberts could do the same if they chose to do so.

    Default This Day 1945: TIGER SLUGGER SCORING ON HIS PENNANT-WINNING GRAND-SLAM HOMER

    Since I have a digital subscription to the NY Times, this year I have been reading the 1945 papers, same day every day, in my daily reading--a better year than 2018 for our Tigers.

    Oct. 1, 1945 was a great day Detroit as the Tigers clinched a World Series berth topped off by a grand slam by Hank Greenberg who returned to the Tigers mid-season 1945 after 4 years of military service. [He served longer than any other major league player.]

    I am just saying that the situations are not equal. The Jack casinos are owned by an LLC, which is a subsidiary of Rock Ventures, of which Dan Gilbert is majority owner, but not sole owner. The financials need to be totally separate between the casinos and the MLB team. The casinos would need to be extricated from the parent company, which would entail buying other owners out, and then transferred to Jennifer. Since she doesn't have the kind of money required to buy it herself, she would essentially need to be given the property outright, an ill-advised move no matter how strong you believe your marriage to be. It's just easier to sell the whole thing to somebody else.

    Marian was just able to finance the whole casino thing herself, simple as buying a car for us.

    Also one game better than the Tampa Bay Rays, who surprisingly, had a pretty good season winning 90 games.

    Just an update for those who continue to ask about ;

    [[Freep): Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera and his former mistress squared off in a Florida courtroom all last week, and there remains no resolution over how much he will be ordered to pay her in child support.

    The case now heads to extra innings, with the parties scheduled to return to court in December. No specific date has been set. A final decision is expected by year's end.

    Florida statute suggests child support be 7.5 percent of net income for two children, which would mean more than $100,000 a month from Cabrera. Cabrera's attorneys have argued the spirit of the statute wasn't designed for someone of Cabrera's means; in baseball salary alone, not including endorsements, Cabrera earns $30 million a year, before taxes, as part of a $240-million contract that runs through at least 2023. That salary eventually will rise to $32 million a year.

    Rodriguez, owner of a floral shop, has claimed to make less than $2,000 a month and has said she has had to borrow from friends and family to make ends meet.

    Just another update for those who keep asking;

    Cabrera also stopped visiting his children in Florida, the lawyer wrote, claiming he "has never had any time-sharing with the minor children, other than sporadic visits, which have ceased completely as of last year."

    For a team supposedly trying to save money, this signing boggles the mind. All of Moore's numbers have been terrible the last 2 years - hits/innings, Hr's allowed, era, etc. He barely qualifies for a minor league deal and the Tigers give him 2.5-3 million?

    Today's update on the "mistress" for those compelled on asking;

    Det News: The Detroit Tigers star slugger has a court date set for Dec. 11 in Orlando, Fla., on what could be the final day of a child-support case that stretches back to August 2017.

    Lawyers for Cabrera and his former mistress, Belkis Mariella Rodriguez, will be in the Ninth Circuit Court of Florida before Judge Alan S. Apte, who is presiding over a bench trial in the dispute over how much money Cabrera should be forced to pay Rodriguez for two children they had together.

    Just off the wire;

    Florida statute sets the guidelines at 7.5 percent of one's income for two children, which would mean more than $100,000 per month for somebody of Cabrera's means. His lawyers, though, argue the statute never was designed for a salary like his, nor are the children with Rodriguez, 36, entitled to livelihoods equal to those of the three children Cabrera, 35, has with his wife, Rosangel.

    Don; any thoughts on who will play short-stop, internal or external? Why not spend some decent cash on this vacant everyday/critical position......oh well.
