Default New Apt. Building - Former Big Boy Site E. Jefferson

240 units seems like a lot for 8-9 stories:

The Scott, which just opened last year in Brush Park, is a 5-story building with 199 apartments. So really this building will take up probably almost half the footprint and have the same volume.

Either way this is great! Keep the developments coming! I really like what the platform is doing for neighborhoods outside of downtown! Their development in New Center [[third and grand) looks like it's going to be top notch

It is pretty exciting that The Platform is a developer willing to think outside the box.

Thinking about this more, maybe the developers know that what Gilbert has planned at the uniroyal site is going to be extremely impressive and raise the land value around it. Right now it would seem building that far out of downtown is kind of a risky bet, but maybe they know something we don't?

curious. wish it were a faster timeline but best of luck. what would the "affordable" units go for?

Dan Gilbert/Bedrock owns the Uniroyal site? when are they doing something with it?

Nothing concrete, but Bedrock is in talks with the city about a development on the site. That's about all anyone knows.

Islandview seems like a neighborhood that would be prime for redevelopment! It's right next to Belle Isle and the rapidly improving West Village, easy access to Downtown, and there's lots of vacant land. Plus it hasn't been chopped up into a bunch of garden style apartment complexes with an incoherent street grid like Elmwood Park...

^^^ Tripped out to see the Big Boy hit the skids ala bull dozed. It would be great to hear what Suma's would have to say about this as this was her neighborhood I believe. I miss her...

I agree with your assessment of Islandview K-slice.

The city owns a boat load of vacant lots there and its location would make Islandview a good candidate for a neighborhood wide Master Plan that brings some developers to the table in a public-private partnership for new infill residential housing with some $1 land and NEZs for bait.
