90% of the plants will be sourced from Michigan, although it did not say how many would be native.

They mentioned that a lot of the plants are local, including some from Detroit.

Non-native doesn't automatically mean invasive. Tulips are non-native to Michigan, and they're not spreading to the wild...

One of my areas of knowledge is plants native to southern Ontario, which would mostly overlap w/the list for Michigan.

There would be some differences mind you.

On a related note, given the overall theme, and some of the other plant choices, I'm surprised not to see the wildflower native to Michigan which bears its name

Half the trees of Belle Isle are dying. It's going to a more green thumbs for that Dutch gardener to put some flowers and trees all over the isle.

I'd really to see somebody plant more evergreen trees on Belle Isle. A grove of white pines would be incredible.

I've heard the DNR is pushing to get more red pines planted, as there are plenty of white pine around the state. I think a nice mix would be good to replace the dead trees on Belle Isle.

This month they're paying $75/bushel for red pine cones.

Have a bushel of fun picking pine cones

... Sept. 1-30, 2021, you can pick red pine cones and drop them off by appointment at six DNR locations: three in the Upper Peninsula and three in the Lower Peninsula....

Maybe this is the reason why the Grand Prix is considering moving back downtown. I think that the former Uniroyal site could be made into a park with the continuation of the Riverwalk, a bicycle or sports shop such as Dick's, and have a permanent roller and ice hockey rink and a fitness center

I think they should build an aviary and a petting farm on the site, so kids can see birds and animals that once roamed freely on Belle Isle.

There probably is enough land to put a zoo there also?

It would be cool to throw some goats out there,they would keep the grass mowed,eat the trash and entertain passerby’s.
