Democrats sweep the races in Virginia, winning the races for Governor, Lt Governor, and Attorney General.

And with a handful of races still too close to call, Democrats looked poised to flip control of the Virginia House of Delegates to Democratic control. Before last night's massacre at the polls, Republicans held a 66-34 seat advantage in the House of Delegates, it currently stands at 48-47 in favor of the Democrats.

    Enjoy while you can.
Maine has always been liberal bent. No surprise in expanding assistance programs there.

Washington st. also very left leaning. Beautiful countryside but couldn't stand the politics there.

N.J. is no surprise after the Bridgegate scandal and Christie closing a popular beach down during a holiday and then being photographed enjoying an empty beach with his family.

Yep. These were nice consolation wins, but they're all in solidly blue or solidly blue-trending states.

Let's see what happens with all of the seats in solidly red or solidly red-trending states in 2018.

I seem to recall quite a bit of rejoicing from the Right when Republicans very narrowly won a handful of special elections in heavily-Republican Congressional districts in ruby red states like Georgia and Montana. Something about how Republicans winning seats that were already held by Republicans in districts that voted for Trump was somehow a validation of Trump and a telltale sign of the curb-stomping Democrats could expect in 2018. But when Democrats win, here come the excuses! If you guys are already writing off states like Maine and Virginia as blue, what does that say about the GOP's long-term prospects? Those used to be purple states.

But yes, we will see. Maybe you guys can start by not losing a Senate seat in one of the reddest states in the country [[Alabama).

Congratulations Senator-elect Doug Jones [[D-AL)! Come January, Republicans can now only afford to lose ONE Republican vote and still pass legislation in the Senate.

I could be more pleased, but I fail in my imagination to wonder how.

    Make snow angels, check.
    Drinking before noon, check.
High 5ing a guy at the gas station, check.

That said, Jones won 25 counties, Moore 42.

Some countries went 83% to Moore. For your reading pleasure:

CNN Alabama exit poll results by race, education, etc..

Racial politics trumped sexual politics. 96% of blacks and 30% of whites voted for Jones. 42% of males and 57% of women voted for Jones. Senator-elect Jones will be up for reelection in 2020.

It is like the presidential election, take the major cities and promise free stuff or tell them what they want to hear and get the majority vote based on the population density.

Then when it is all over with nothing changes within the city centers.

Is that like how Trump repeatedly promised all those rural whites that he would bring back coal jobs? How's that working out, BTW?

    Awww did Wikipedia block you?

Here let help you out a bit.

Weekly US coal production reaches 2017 high at 17 million st: EIA

You know how that works right? Increased demand means it takes more shovels to dig it out to meet the demand which means increased jobs.

    Correct?

I also heard on the news that in spite of the massive global warming it was expected to get cold in the northern states this winter with snow, natural gas prices are up which means coal production will increase.

My power company uses a percentage of coal and last week when it was a freezing 78 degrees here I had to run my heater which in turn increased the demand.

Didn't see any numbers in there about how many new jobs have been created, which is what I asked about. Also your numbers are for 2017 ONLY. You mean to tell me that coal demand goes up during the coldest week of the year? Well damn, that MUST prove then that thousand of new coal jobs must have been created then because demand went up during a week of freezing temperatures compared to warmer months!

Since coal is BOOMING, should be easy enough for you Richard to show me proof of the tens of thousands of new coal jobs that have been created, as was promised. BLS statistics perhaps?

Sometimes we as adults have to use a little common sense in our thinking process,8000 coal jobs were killed under the previous administration.

So now they need to reopen mines and ramp up production,or is not like your house where you unlock the door and turn on the light switch,it takes time.

No different when an idled auto plant is restarted.

Here are some specific numbers for you.

I was referring to Fl when the temps outside dipped to 78,that's when we fire up the heaters and hope the pipes do not freeze.

LOL it's 6'F here. I am at least enjoying a warm fire courtesy of the dead tree that fell on my house earlier in the year during a wind storm.

Most of us are transplanted yankees,I remember growing up in Minnesota in the seventies where -50 with wind chill was not uncommon.

The only thing here is the sunshine and being able to be on the water more days out of the year, the change of seasons is basically either cold or hot from on day to the next. One misses the changing of the leaves in the fall.

Forget about being outside in July,August and September, let alone wear shorts and climb into a car with black vinyl or leather seats.

Then there is the whole requirement to learn a second language to replace the first in some parts.

It is really not all that it is cracked up to be.

I still haven't given up my dream to become a world class comedian. I spent a little bit of time in and around Jupiter [[not the planet) Saw y'all's boy Burt on his horse one day, sans toupee. Florida and Georgia are nice but not for me. The summertime humidity is too much and too many old people. I'm more of a New Mexico kind of person.

Another election last night in Pennsylvania, this time for a House seat. With some absentee ballots still be counted, Democrat Conor Lamb is currently leading Republican Rick Saccone by about 570 votes.

    http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign...election-upset

This was a Republican-held seat in a heavily-Republican district that Trump won by 20 points in the last election. Under normal circumstances, this should have been a Republican blowout. And the GOP pulled out the big guns to keep this seat, with both Donald Trump and Mike Pence visiting the district in recent weeks to campaign for Saccone. The GOP and conservative groups like the NRA spent over $10 million on this race, roughly double the amount of money that was spent on behalf of Lamb. And it looks like despite all of that, they still lost. That's not a good omen for the GOP heading into November.

Expect a fresh wave of Republican incumbents "retiring" from Congress after today's results.

^ this is starting to get interesting,he is a conservative democrat, pro gun,pro choice etc.

Most of the Dems winning are the DNC outcasts of sorts,if you take Cali and New York Dems out of the picture they have a chance.

The issue is if the Dems take control and peloski becomes speaker of the house the conservative Dems will have to lean to and support the radical left.Which is when it really hits the fan.

If the conservative Dems could run on their own platform outside of the DNC they may get somewhere.

    Your kidding right?

Trump wins by a thin hair against a really weak candidate then proceeds to turn the White House into his own reality TV show complete with a porn star, twitter and the "your fired" line for his own hires and you think the Republicans are on a roll?

He is a single handed wrecking ball for the Republican party long term so far.

All the Democrat's need is patience to let him finish the job and some warm bodies who are not child molesters. [[Trump even ran that up the flag pole)

It is just politics. Not terribly difficult to see where it is trending.

16 months after winning this district by 19 points and then promptly losing it, the Republicans have a problem.

A very big orange problem who is used to getting his own way like a spoiled rich child with a hot temper and a thin skin that insults everyone eventually.
