    Default Rebirth of the Schvitz

The legendary and history-laden Schvitz bathhouse on Oakland is reopening on Oct. 1. It is being renovated by recovering it original designs and features by removing dropped ceilings and more.

The former Purple Gang haunt that had morphed into a notorious swingers club by the end of the 20th Century was purchased but the colorful Paddy Lynch, scion of a famous undertaking company who also owns and inhabits a nearby Boston-Edison district mansion.

This Crain’s article is a good read about him and the Schvitz. Interesting also is the discovery of a covered-over mikveh [Jewish ritual bath with a rain water collecting system for the natural water required].

With the Northend becoming the new hot neighborhood, this could be a plus to that rebirth too. The swinger nights have been ended and a neighborhood discount is being offered. Food service is to be added at a later day.
