    Default Revolving restaurants.

I'm from out of town, a friend who used to live in Detroit and I will be there for the marathon next month. Looking for a nice romantic quiet place to take her out to dinner while we're there. I heard that there's a Marriott that has a revolving restaurant at the top but haven't been able to confirm it. What is the location of this Marriott? And are there any other revolving restaurants with a great View?

Another question, the Wolfgang Puck Steakhouse at the MGM Casino, several years ago was that known as Wolfgang Puck Grill?

There was once a revolving restaurant called the Summit on top of the Detroit Plaza Hotel at the Renaissance Center when it opened in 1977. That hotel is now a Marriott and the restaurant was last known as Coach Insignia. The restaurant is now closed and has not revolved for many years. The revolving mechanism failed and was too expensive to repair.

There was a Wolfgang Puck Steakhouse at the casino. I am not sure if it is still open or not. When we dined there we were very underwhelmed. The food was extraordinarily mediocre and it was terribly smokey in there from all of the disgusting cigarette smoke wafting in from the casino. One visit to that place was enough to convince us to not return.

Don't know if the rotating part of this place still rotates, nor whether it has a restaurant in that part, but it could be worth checking into.

This page says that's a "revolving rooftop ballroom."

I can't answer your specific questions, but in terms of dining choices, websites like TripAdvisor or maybe even Google Reviews should help you gauge others' opinions on Detroit eateries. Maybe see if there's a nice place in the MGM [[steakhouse or otherwise), the Marriott Ren Cen or Greektown [[in the casino or otherwise). Alternatively, there's always Caesars Palace across the waves.

I'm looking for something very romantic and memorable. Back around 2012 there was a Wolfgang Puck grill that she loved to go to but now the only thing I can find is a Wolfgang Puck Steak House. Don't know if they're the same or not. But yeah preferably looking for something very romantic with great views

Revolving restaurants used to be a big thing in the 1980s, but I think the maintenance issues slowly led to them being closed down one after another.

If you want romantic and great food you can't beat this place.

Your best bet for a nice restaurant with a view, staying downtown near your hotel and easy to walk to or take the People Mover, would be either Joe Muer's Seafood [[steak & seafood) or Andiamo [[Italian). Both are in the Renaissance Center a few floors up and you can make a reservation overlooking the Detroit River. Both are Detroit area classics. If you really want a view from high up, Iridescence is atop the Motor City Casino, a 5 minute cab ride away. There was a restaurant on top of the Crowne Plaza Riverfront but I'm not sure if it's open.[[Edit: It's only open for private events now.)

What I'm really looking for, is a really quiet romantic restaurant where a guy would want to take a girl for a nice date. We live in Houston and there's a couple of revolving restaurants here. Did some searching and saw that there was or at one time was a couple of revolving restaurants and Detroit. I'm looking for some place really romantic with possibly good views of the scenery. Something nice like what you would get from a revolving restaurant. I know she likes the Wolfgang Grill for Wolfgang Steakhouse as it's called now but just don't know if that's the quiet romantic atmosphere I'm looking for. When she lived in Detroit she got around and have probably been to most of the really fancy high-end restaurants. I'm sure the restaurants mentioned in the last post she's been to before but that's not a deal-breaker.

I like the Iridescence. I'll put that one on my short list.

LOL, really impress her with your kind and romantic thoughtfulness: let her choose the dining venue.

Maybe Dan Gilbert will put one at the top of the Book Tower in due course.

The restaurant called the Rattlesnake Club is right on the Riverwalk, and the restaurant has a large patio looking out onto the Detroit River and Windsor, ON.

You can take a romantic walk along the Riverwalk before or after dinner.

The restaurant gets generally good reviews.

Iridescence, Andiamo Riverfront, Top of The Ponch. Unfortunately there are no more revolving restaurants here. If you want the best view, Iridescence or Top of The Ponch have that as well as great food and a romantic atmosphere. If money is not an object, try The Whitney. No view, but food is top notch, it's in a beautiful mansion, and one of the more romantic places you can probably go in downtown.

I posted this in this thread but it appears the Pontch is now only available for private events/banquet space. That sure didn't last long.

I had the opportunity to eat at the Wolfgang Puck Steakhouse for a rehearsal dinner last Friday. I believe this is different than the original Wolfgang Puck Grill that was in MGM when it first opened in 2008. I give the atmosphere an 8 out of 10, dark and romantic with cool modern dim lighting and some private booths. Service was good, 8 out of 10. Food was good but nothing extraordinary, 7 out of 10. I did not notice a strong cigarette smell in the restaurant itself, the casino on the other hand...yes.

Well I took the advice of someone on here and narrowed it down to the rattlesnake club and Iridescence, so I asked her which one she would like to go to and surprisingly she hasn't been to neither of those. She said she's always wanted to go to the rattlesnake Club but never had the right person to take with her. When I asked her if that's where she would want to go she had a nice big smile and said sure. So that's where we're going to be the night before the Detroit Marathon next month.

Remember it's 26 miles long. You're going to need to get some sleep, if you get my drift.

If you don't mind me asking what were the damages [[the bill), rounded off to the nearest hundred?
I've been to a Wolfgang restaurant in Florida [[Disney) and the tab was really high - even having a tea toting family.

Actually dinner will be the night before. After the marathon we're heading to Grand Rapids to see her mom. Reservations will be at 5:30. Plenty of time to walk around and eat. We're flying in Friday evening and then hitting the Expo Saturday and then out to eat.
