Only 15 hours earlier, a Port Huron hospital had released Lander after a 13-day stay for a schizophrenic outbreak, deeming him safe enough to discharge. "

Maybe if Engler has not dismantled the state of Michigan department of mental health this tragedy could hace been avoided.

Probably not. The cycle is:

1. Patient stops taking their medication
2. Patient has a severe episode of some type
3. Patient is admitted to hospital, given their medication
4. Patient's behavior is stabilized
5. Patient is released from hospital
6. Go back to step 1
