David Clements is one of the most interesting people around. Artist, photographer, film maker, author [TALKING SHOPS: Detroit Commercial Folk Art], movie location scout and more, David is a Cass Corridor original and a non-stop discoverer. Of late he has taken to photographing the humble and inspiring gospel quartets that form one of the foundations of Detroit’s great music legacy.

Those photos are displayed in an exhibition entitled "DETROIT GREATS OF GOSPEL MUSIC" that opened at the Ellen Kayrod Gallery - 4750 Woodward Ave. and I had the pleasure to attend. [The exhibit is runs through June 16th and is free and open to the public. Questions? > Misha L J Stallworth, MSW Director of Arts and Culture 313-833-1300 ext 25 mstallworth[at]hannan.org]

What made the opening unique among art openings was performance by one of the groups he photographed, The Masters of Harmony, featuring 103[!] year old Detroit Gospel Artist Thomas Kelly [[right) with Brother Greer [[left) and Brother Wilfred [[center). Brother Neil, the fourth member was not present due to a medical issue.
