I see from the pictures they are now taking down the crane which built this building, and it was used to lift the windows into place. They have yet to place the windows where the exterior elevator is located. With the crane going away does anyone know how they will place the rest of the windows in their places?

It's almost completely down at this moment. They have installed building's own crane on top of the building for that use as well as move-in, etc.

That is what I was thinking. The second crane is to install the elevator window panels. The whole outside shell probably be covered by Christmas

Does anyone know when in 2025 the hotel is set to open? Anyone knows what retail will open in the Block part of the complex?

Prestige is a favourite of mine. You can slap it onto a lot of things that look really blah in my book, especially real estate, that tends to look the same. There are 3 million dollar homes that are just blown up versions of a more modest house that are described as prestigious. Same materials, same look, lack of colour and character; just larger. A lot of tasteless stuff passes for quality if you believe the hype…
My favorite is the stick-built walk up apts. with no lawns that are now "garden townhomes."

The hotel is planned to open in 2027.

I had noticed that work had slowed down on the Hudson Tower on that one side where glass is still needed. Will the exterior of the building be completed by years end?

Sun glare on Hudson Tower affecting drivers in Downtown Detroit

I doubt anything can be done about it other than wearing sunglasses with polarized filters {aren't they all polarized now?} or maybe avoid driving there at that time on those days.

Convex windows might help but I've never heard of that option.

At least it's not the Walkie Talkie building! LOL!

This is the type of story that happens in an area that hasn't seen a significantly tall building go up in a couple of decades.

The Walkie Talkie building story is hilarious though. I can't believe nobody put thought into the curvature of that or had zero understanding of how lenses work.

Had there been a stand still on completion of the; building's exterior? It appear that the only one section, the north section, of the building completion had came to a stand still. Yeats the only section that still doesn't have the windows installed

Didn’t learn your lesson from questioning why windows in the middle of The Block hadn’t been installed yet? They know what they’re doing.

Is it though? The buildings are there I think this has to do more with construction equipment being off site and the block opening back up to pedestrians. This isn't District Detroit where they haven't even put a shovel in the ground.

I do think what we are seeing is Bedrock tackling a massive project but not yet having the experience when it comes to ground up skyscrapers and office buildings. I think they were quite adept at adaptive reuse on smaller buildings but with this project and the Book Tower you saw massive cost overruns and time overruns. I think that may have just been inexperience given the scope of the projects. It also might be why everything else you have seen since Hudson's and Book lack the ambition that they once seemed to show with everything.

Bottom line it was a building started on spec at a different time in the market, which was nice of Gilbert, but there are no tenants lined up that are anxious to move in. GM can move any time and the Edition Hotel doesn't want in until 2027.

They are also unable to collect on those tax captures until they have tenants in there. I am not sure I see how this is a betrayal of the original agreement. Delays suck but its not like they are reaping the benefits without providing anything.

I wasn't saying anyone betrayed anyone else. Moving the goalposts is just a term for another frustrating delay. You have to admit 8 years is a long time for any building and even then the tower portion won't be occupied.

Apologies, I inferred a different meaning with the statement.

I agree. I think my frustration lies with the scaled down building and now the scraping of Monroe Blocks over the time taken for Hudson's. I think from a design perspective Hudson's was the more interest development but from a pedestrian angle Monroe was going to add a lot more to the city. That one bums me out most.

Wait. Now you see the reason why I question things. The development was moving at a fast pace even with the topping off celebration. When it gotten down to installing the last set of windows on the side section then more time is being asked for. I can't put the total blame on Bedrock. It's probably the contractors who slowed down the developing of the project maybe to keep the paycheck coming. It only had taken a month or so to install the glass panels on the south side of the building. It's taken 4 months and more to install panels on the last remaining part of the tower. Sounds like someone stalling for more cash and Bedrock's hands are probably tied where they have to ask for an extension. I am not putting the blame on Gilbert being that he is still recovering from a stroke and others are running the show. That's my take on it

My point now, as it was then, is that you have no idea what their process is for construction. They aren't deliberately leaving it open and forcing Gilbert to get an extension, the work they are doing is taking longer and that is required for the extension.

If you don't understand why something is the way it is you immediately skip over the fact that you have no expertise in construction and knowledge base and immediately jump to some conspiracy or something nefarious. That's is illogical, especially given that you already did this with the other building and was proven that it was just a part of their process.

And here you are being upset of the scaling back of the building and the deadline

You do understand that disappointment with a result is different than wildly speculating on something that you are clueless about, right?

I am just making observations and asking questions. Unlike you my friend I am not disappointed nor frustrated at slow process of this development understanding that Bedrock is headed by one man, Gilbert, who could only do so much. Maybe Bedrock had taken on too many projects at one time

Yeah, being curious about why it is taking so long is different than taking the next conspiratorial step you always seem so eager to take. It isn't that the process is taking longer for the folks at Barton Malow, they are slowing it down to squeeze Bedrock for every penny. Maybe one day you will see that there is a difference between what you tend to do and "asking questions."

A lot of history condensed into 15 minutes.

Why Detroit Demolished Its Greatest Christmas Store: Hudson's
When Detroit was the number one city for real estate in the world, one store defined "Christmas" and occupied an entire city block with 2.2 million square feet of retail space, transforming into a magical wonderland each holiday season when up to 450,000 visitors would journey to its legendary Santaland.
