Default Abandoned Belle Isle Zoo Featured in Architectural Afterlife Blog

This is a blog I follow. The blogger is from Ohio so a good chunk of what is featured is based there, but there are features from other states, and today's was something I thought would be of interest.

anyone have any info on the newer belle isle nature zoo [[proposal, cost, contractors, etc.)? i always heard the job was mostly about kwame kickbacks and having visited its an underwhelming place...i will say the new play structure opposite the zoo is very impressive.

I still feel that it's a huge shame what happened to that zoo. And the cronyism involved was galling and stands as yet another blot on the Kilpatrick administration. I'm still a little bit both sad and angry every time I go past the ruins.

It seems that it's now way past time that something should have done with that area, and perhaps with repurposing those structures. Anyone know if, now that the park has changed hands, the state has any long-range plans or ideas to do anything with that part of the island? Or if it has even been talked about?

I'd like to see the zoo cleaned up, stabilized, and turned into a sculpture park.

I haven't heard anything other than pipe dreams from my friends, tho.
