I have read that the Bishop Union School [[grades 1-8) north and west of Gratiot Ave. had in the early 20th century a section reserved for troublesome boys. Supposedly young hooligans such as proto-Purple Gangsters Abe and Izzy Bernstein were sent there because they caused trouble in their regular classes. I have been unable to verify this fact/legend/myth. The Free Press never mentions it. I can't find a history of Detroit schools. Does anyone know of a source that would help me know if the Bishop School had such a section for troublesome boys?
