North Carolina Did What SCOTUS Wouldn't - Ended GOP Gerrymandering
A North Carolina state court panel stopped the GOP’s gerrymandering plan by ruling that the maps drawn for GOP-dominated voting districts were in violation of the state's constitution, and of the rights of North Carolina voters.

There are currently six Democrats and one Republican on the North Carolina Supreme Court—including Justice Anita Earls, who litigated against gerrymanders before joining the bench. The Democratic majority would likely affirm the superior court’s decision and demand new legislative maps for the 2020 election.

I thought the whole argument against Trump appointees was stacking the deck against the Dems but at the state level it is not considered stacking the deck?

I wonder where they would have been if the deceased daughter had not ratted him out?

No it isn't "stacking the deck" because NC Supreme Court justices are not appointed by an executive. They are elected by the people.

So how was the Democratic Party able to vote in a majority in the Supreme Court If thier vote was suppressed due to gerrymandering, surly it would have been leaning republican if they were actually in control of the vote as charged.

Same reason why North Carolina has a Democratic Governor, because state Supreme Court justices are voted on statewide and aren't elected in "districts" which can be gerrymandered. Do you even know what gerrymandering is, Richard, and how that differs from a statewide election? Because you seem to be very confused. You can't "gerrymander" statewide races, genius.

Also, Trump invited the freaking TALIBAN to come to American soil for talks on the anniversary of September 11. Let's play a little game called "If Obama had done this, how would Republicans have reacted?"

So it was okay in the 1980s to provide them with funding and weapons in order to kill the Russians but not okay to invite them for a hamburger.

You can kill for me but not eat at my dinner table?

    Thats messed up.

Besides is that not racist to not let them come in,they do identify as Muslims.

You know how many countries they have attacked but yet who is over there fighting them?

They blew up the Danish embassy,we shed blood for that retaliation then they laugh at us when somebody offers to buy a chunk of ice from them.

It is time we make truce with them, then when they start blowing everybody else up let them deal with it for a change.

The left was the ones that wanted to play nice with them in the first place, trying to shut down Gitmo and stop waterboarding them, then get all upset when innocents get caught up in the crossfire of war.

The people of the US say,we want to be safe but you have to defend us with paintball guns and means that do not offend us.

The question was,"If Obama had done this, how would Republicans have reacted?"

I remember when Republicans lost their shit when Obama wore a tan suit. I cannot imagine the collective freak out that would have ensued if Obama brought the Taliban to Camp David during the 9/11 anniversary. They probably would have started talking impeachment.

Actually Obama did worse that cost American service members thier lives.

Michael Steele, the Republican National Committee chairman, issued the following statement:

Although this decision took far too long and it should not have, I am glad the president will finally provide General McChrystal with the troops he needs. However, tonight’s speech must be the beginning, not the end, of the case President Obama makes to the American people as to why this is, as he said during the campaign, ‘a war we have to win.’ If the president remains committed to this crucial fight, Republicans - and the American people - will stand with him. But sending mixed signals by outlining the exit before these troops even get on the ground undermines their ability to succeed.

Democratic Congressman Dave Obey, who has previously warned Obama that “there ain’t going to be no money for nothing if we pour it all into Afghanistan,” said that he hopes Obama’s Afghanistan policy succeeds, but that the issue of how to finance the war remains a serious one:

The biggest threat to our long-term national security is a stunted economy. If this endeavor is to be pursued, we must have a renewed sense of shared sacrifice - because right now only military families are paying the cost of this war. A progressive war surtax is the fairest way to pay for it - fairest to working class families and fairest to military families.”

Fourth, we’re pursuing a negotiated peace. In coordination with the Afghan government, my administration has been in direct discussions with the Taliban. We’ve made it clear that they can be a part of this future if they break with al Qaeda, renounce violence and abide by Afghan laws. Many members of the Taliban -- from foot soldiers to leaders -- have indicated an interest in reconciliation. The path to peace is now set before them. Those who refuse to walk it will face strong Afghan security forces, backed by the United States and our allies.

Noooo, Cletus, that wasn't OK either. Where did I imply that it was? Also it was Reagan who did that, just like it was Reagan who illegally sold weapons to Iran. How that somehow justifies Trump inviting them to dine with him on American soil on 9/11 is beyond me when you could just as easily hold such talks in a neutral third-party country.

Once again proving the old adage: "There's a Trump tweet that contradicts everything Trump says and does as President."

Hey, we haven't gotten directly involved with any new wars or military actions since he took office, so if firing an NSA every year is what it takes, then I'm fine with it.

Bolton's firing is wonderful news! We have been in some military actions but at least Trump hasn't done anything on the scale of starting new wars, bombing Libya, or even Serbia.

Neocons must not be happy. Hillary lost, McCain is gone, and now John Bolton will have a more difficult time procuring new wars. One would think that there would be more joy found here about Bolton getting sacked.

4 billion per day is what it costs to sit in Afghanistan.

On a more positive note,North Carolina decided for the second time it wants republican representatives in Washington.

Looks like the blue wave continues to slow down to a meandering brook with no clear path.

Next it will represent an annoying drip of a leaky spigot.

We're going on two freaking decades of losing American lives over that pile of rock. By now we should know that there's no good way to end it, so we might as well take whatever option saves the most American lives and dollars.
If making a deal with the Taliban is what it takes to get American troops out of Afghanistan, then I say go for it!

Sorry to interrupt your delusional thinking.....

Bishop won by 2 percentage points in a district that went +12 for Trump and hasn't elected a Democrat since the 1960's.

You may now return to your fantastical thoughts.

Syrians said the number one thing hindering the process was Bolton and not Trump.

In other news we just dropped 80,000 pounds of bombs in one run on a small river island outside of Iraq where thousands of militants were supposed to be holed up.

    Poof went the entire island.

The problem is in mixing war with politics.

Saudi Arabia pulled their troops out of a strong hold, the Christian population that was there said it was like 4 years of prison,if you did not abide by Saudi religious beliefs then you were executed on the spot.

    Key word being WON

You buddy O Rourk pissed his constituents off by jumping the gun and running for president when they wanted him in the senate, seems like no matter how hard they try, winning seems not to be in the cards.

    Biden or Trump 2020

Who are you going to vote for,a proven winner or a proven loser.

O wait, you already said you follow the party lines no matter what.

    Piece of advise

Tie a rope around your ankle,so when you get sucked down the drain, you can pull yourself back out.

ANYONE who still thinks Trump is a "good" president, or who thinks he is "smart" by this time has the intellect of a garden slug's slime trail. Anyone who supports his policies has the moral fiber of a jelly donut.

You live in a bubble Richard. Trump is a laughingstock. Most intelligent Americans are disgusted and ashamed of him. History will remember him as the worst president in our nation's history.

Piece of better advice: get off the sinking ship while there's still time.
