I think you may have meant to say... 'dividing mark' between Grosse Pointe and Detroit...? That is a canal which, when I think of it, is what Dutch with all their water may consider a wall.

On the other hand, since you mention word market, it could be about the farmer's market created to de facto block entrance into Grosse Pointe Park from Detroit.
