    Default Pistons boycotting Trump

So these sports teams that are deciding to choose or create sides, when it comes to taxpayer support for thier stadiums are they also exempting Trump supporters from that obligation?

They remind me of the actors whose sole purpose in life is to entertain and would be nothing without their support base.

Exactly! Just because you get paid millions to play with balls doesn't make your opinion any more valuable than mine. When people are paying to support your paycheck it's good practice to not deliberately piss them off. Keep your free speech opinions off the court.

How exactly does the Pistons or any sports team for that matter not staying in Trump hotels affect you in any way personally or deliberately piss you off? What does any of that have to do with taxpayer support? And keep in mind, The Palace was completely funded by Bill Davidson with his own money, so your tax dollars had no say in that facility.

And where did anyone say that their opinion was more valuable than mine or yours? They just simple have a larger platform to voice it so more people hear it. Last time I checked, anyone regardless of income was allowed to voice their opinion on anything they want.

Good for them. It would be insane for an African American dominated organization [[or really any public organization that cares about PR) to choose a hotel brand owned by an avowed white nationalist.

Why should I listen to the opinion of someone who can't even spell the word "entertain"?

Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods were criticized throughout their careers for being corporate shills and not speaking out on African American or other political issues. When athletes do voice an opinion they are criticized as well. The old "damned if you do, damned if you don't."

Their sole purpose in life? How arrogant and presumptive of you to assume that anyone exists merely to ENTERTAIN you. What they do is their profession. It isn't their sole purpose in life. They are allowed to have thoughts, feelings, and ideas outside of their work that define who they are as a person. Unless you think that your job is your sole purpose in life as well you shouldn't think someone else's job is theirs.

What an arrogant statement to say that pro athletes, coaches and owners can't have an opinion because they "play with balls." I can't even imagine what the first two posters would think about Stan Van Gundy's comments on the election. It'll probably make them continue to not go to any NBA games...

I have an ideal. Do not to any of his hotels, caSINos and his worthless resorts.

I'd need to know more specifics. Are they walking around on an NBA court with their uniforms on with anti-Trump signs?

Or are they tweeting and speaking out against Trump?

Basketball players are people and they do get to express their opinions. Granted, their free speech may have repercussions as sponsors pull out, or teams maybe want to avoid a player that seems "noisy".

These players are speaking out and don't care if it costs them money because they believe in something that very important to them.

Because one day you'll spell something wrong but will still want people to consider the meaning of your words.

Thanks to The Detroit Pistons and to all the other professional sports team that are joining this boycott of Trump!

Did the Pistons ever stay at a Trump hotel or resort? I was under the impression that most teams have deals with specific hotel chains or hotels, and pretty much always stay at the same places.

Besides which, there aren't very many Trump hotels in cities that host NBA teams. There are a couple in NYC, one in Chicago, one in DC, and one in Toronto.

    So... doesn't really matter?

He/she also misspelled "their". If one can't use the proper variant of there, their, and they're they've lost any respect with me.

.... Curious.. The NBA has, what, 27, 28 teams? In all of the cities they inhabit, how many of them boast a Trump-branded hotel? To take it a little further, how many of these hotels would Trump's real estate business interests actually own vs. simply a "branding" and other hospitality entities are actually involved in the ownership and/or management of the property?

On a sidebar, it will be an.... interesting spectacle for the next four years to see Trump host White House visits by various winning sports teams [[youth and adults). Not that it's a requirement, but anyway...

When I see these people with a platform speak out against real issues in the black community that happen daily then I don't wanna hear people whine about a few things somebody said that hurt their feelings. Everyone has an opinion. Trump just doesn't worry about being PC. To me all this BLM and TRUMP crap is putting ALL of us back 50 years. Everyone is a bunch of pansies and is offended by everything nowadays. Grow a back bone and become a successful individual.

I don't want this thread to dissolve into an argument about very real racism that still exists and is being perpetuated by Donald Trump, but for many, life isn't as simple as "pulling yourself up from the bootstraps." This is much bigger than feelings being hurt, and NBA players have the right to speak up about it.

Good for them! The Detroit Pistons have every right to spend their money as they see fit and I commend them for showing some backbone. I'm rooting for that move back downtown, too.

Oh that's not why I am making fun of him, I am ripping on him because he thinks just because your job is in the public eye you are not allowed an opinion. It's just that spelling errors are easy pickings.

Nail on the head. Majority of these people don't have a clue or could care less, about what it's like to be Black, and have never had to experience racism, but are the first to tell you you're overreacting. BS. Trump has implored people to say or do, whatever is on their mind, because he does it. There is a direct correlation between his divisive campaign and the police shootings, racist rants and dialogue, and violent rallies he overseen.
