Default "Nightcall" with Peter Werbe on WRIF ends after 46 Years

What had become the longest running call in talk show in Detroit and American radio history has ended. Began in 1970 the left-leaning "Night Call" had been hosted by Peter 'I'm a radical not a liberal' Werbe. It had long ruled the ratings roost in its marginalized Sunday 11:30 to 2 AM slot.

Aired on WRIF, WCSX and WMGC, along with its three HD stations, the termination came this week as new station owners, Naples, Fla.-based Beasley Broadcast Group Inc., took over.

Others cut in the Beasley takeover:
Among those exiting are Detroit Market Manager Steve Chessare and Peter Werbe, who hosted the Nightcall talk show on sunday evenings on Rock 101.1 WRIF. The Charlotte Observer reported that News/Talk 1110 WBT/99.3 WBT-FM late morning host Keith Larson and 31 year station vet News Director Jim Barroll exited.

I had heard the rumblings from Peter who, in full disclosure, is a long time friend and fellow handball player. His alternative voice will be greatly missed and his legacy long remembered.

His "alternative voice", knowledge, and honesty have been a sharp departure from what passes for radio discussions these days. I have been a fan and wish Peter well in his next endeavor.

46 years is an amazing run. He must have been doing something right.

Somewhere, an idiot lives in Corporate America who probably never heard the show.

    Best of luck to him.
