"The Parade Co. plans to pursue national broadcast of the Detroit Thanksgiving Day parade within the next couple of years.Currently, America's Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van is syndicated and aired in a growing number of markets around the country.
"I'm confident that we're very close to reaching a level that a network would be very interested in airing it on a national basis," he said. With national broadcast, it would air in cities across America through affiliates of a national network, said Tony Michaels, president and CEO of the parade's nonprofit organizer.
Michaels said he could point to many Detroit events with pride, including the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, the Jazz Festival presented by Quicken Loans, the North American International Auto Show and the Ford Fireworks.
"The parade is right in that group and draws as many, if not more, than anything we do in this city ... We just view this as very important to put Detroit on that national stage.""
