Thread: Gene Wilder RIP

    Default Gene Wilder RIP

News sites got big on this. Reddit has like a dozen threads with everyone saying similar things or posting their fan art, but no one commenting; so, I'd imagine DY can do better by sharing their thoughts on this gifted man.

Folks seem to only remember him from The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Willy Wonka. I first saw him at the theaters [[as a young man, mind you) with Richard Pryor in Stir Crazy [[and later Silver Streak on TV)-as they appeared a few films together. He was in odder roles as a man refusing to become a rhinoceros, a sheep-lover, a fox, or a Rabbi in the old west.

This was a man who persevered after the death of Gilda and Pryor [[to be sadly honest, I thought Gene had died a while back). No one could throw a fit like him, and even films that weren't that funny had some drop-dead outrageously funny scenes [[Woman, in Red,The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother, Haunted Honeymoon) like-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_RJjCBcBSsand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klwqDCaN6Uoandhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2Rhxok-h80 [[with nudity), andhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwV7nDylvoA .

"No one could throw a fit like him"....your not kidding. My favorite, the court room and prison scene with Richard Pryor in Stir Crazy. Actually, all of it was hilarious.

My favorite fit was the Blue Blanket scene in The Producers.

That would have been this scene from The Little Prince.

It might seem a bit creepy at first in a pedophilic way but in the context of the movie it wasn't.

I was reading that Gene Wilder took a stand on the kinds of films he would do over continuing to act indiscriminately!

'In an interview at New York's 92nd Street Y in 2013, Wilder explained how he became disillusioned with the style of films that became popular in Hollywood.

"But then I didn't want to do the kind of junk that I was seeing," Wilder said during the interview. "I didn't want to do 3-D, for instance. I didn't want to do ones with bombing and loud and swearing."'

RIP, funnyman. MR. Funnyman. I always wanted to be in Gene and Gilda's family.

Somewhere in my archives of video tapes [[yes, I still own those), I have a segment from TCM, in which Wilder is outdoors in a park talking about the benefit of seeing a film in a theater rather than alone on TV. He has that bittersweet but desperately happy manner about him as he continues to speak. Just as he starts to say that there is a moment when everyone laughs at a scene and there is a release and it becomes this wonderful moment everyone shares, a strong breeze picks up and starts to sway the trees around him [[like the Holy Ghost was passing through or something) and his eyes light up bright as it is happening on cue. It is an impressive thing to see.

Also, I found this on Reddit and I hope the story is true, as the person claims they get mentioned in Gilda's book.https://www.reddit.com/r/genewilder/..._wilder_story/

Here is an interview [[or rather, parts of it) with Gene and Merv Griffin from 1979. What a wonderful soul he was! I'm glad he left us with so many good memories.

Thank you greatly for that link. I liked Jerry Silverman-I mean Gene's technique for gauging whether he made his mom laugh or not.
