Default DDOT adding routes to Eastern Market, more 24hr service

Some really interesting changes are coming. I can't remember the last time we even had express routes.

I'm very pleased to see Neil running this part of the operation. He is a very interesting guy and he takes a holistic view of transportation, which [[weirdly) is not common for transit planners, at least the ones I've met. He actually thinks in terms of people: who might need a ride, and to where, and why. He also seems to have an uncanny knack for merging that with the realm of the possible. Neil is why there is, once again and after several years without it, bus service to Belle Isle, for example.

Thanks for the link. This sounds like really excellent news for public transit users.

In the larger sense, this is one small piece of how development downtown and midtown will benefit the neighborhoods. New places of employment [[offices, restaurants, etc.) create demand for more transit to and from the area. The city adds new routes - Ryan Express, Joy Express, Villages, Southwest, Rosedale. And suddenly those neighborhoods have a new link to jobs, shopping, etc. for all residents.

I like the idea of the Fresh Wagon but think the name could use some work. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyway a great addition.

And, I'm a big fan of the expanded 24 service and frequency on major routes like Jefferson, Michigan, Dexter, Van Dyke, Crosstown. Someone needs to make a frequent service map for Detroit. Hmm...

Where is the money coming from for all of these new routes and service expansions? Any routes being cut to shift resources?

I hope the momentum is able to be maintained for the new, and expanded routes.
