Default DDOT to pay $850,000 in 2016-2017 to fix Rosa Parks Transit Center

This after last year's installation of "snow guards" on the roof.

When this thing went up, some of us had some quibbles with this design, particularly the canopy. Luckily, some people who knew better corrected us, assuring us that our concerns were groundless. Sure, the canopy was shredded a day or so after it went up, but it was fixed in a jiffy. It was all covered in a mammoth Hall of Fame thread. One expert in particular cried: "After all, would you rather wait for a bus in a dark, noisy, smelly, polluted garage or a light, open, breezy plaza?"

Another poster had predicted: "In order to keep the place looking decent the city will have to spring for maintenance ... Given the city's track record with such things I'm not betting on that happening, so some years from now we will have another shabby embarrassing eyesore on our hands."

Well, it turns out the transit center is due for a spit shine. The rehab is billed as simple maintenance of a heavily used facility. They're only fixing the broken ticket machines, the "heavily-worn floors and ramshackle bathroom stalls covered in graffiti." Oh, and the "message boards displaying inaccurate bus route info." And they're replacing the lighting. Oh, and they're planning to "fix the exterior concrete and to upgrade the transit center's generator and electrical system."

You know ... just simple maintenance.

About time they got around to fixing the "next bus" displays, as I can never recall a time when any of them were working correctly.

That center gets mad use, so it would seem that the best thing for the city to do is maintain it on a regular basis to prevent these kind of conditions. It's hard to see how bad off the center is just driving by. You know I'm not surprised by any of this. Relying on the bus for several years will make you jaded.

Is the restaurant still on the 2nd floor?
