  1. Default Historic United Sound Studios Jeopardized Again?

The famous United Sound Studio on 2nd that controversially was posing an impediment to I94 expansion is potentially threatened again since being seized by authorities on the grounds that it was purchased with illicit funds.

The Justice Department has an interest in the United Sound Systems Recording Studios in Midtown Detroit where Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger and Motown Record Corp. founder Berry Gordy recorded hits, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

Robert Snell of Crain's writes that late last month federal prosecutors asked a judge to have the property at 5840 2nd Ave. forfeited to the government because the studio allegedly was purchased with money from suspected drug dealer Dwayne Richards, who was arrested last January after being on the run for four years.

As of now it remains. It is just beyond the retaining wall where the new steel beams will land taking Second over the freeway. The house across the street, [[our friend Burt's old house, also a scene of many a late night often referred to as "gas bill parties" and attended by well over a hundred people) was razed. The basement where I used to fill up 40 ouncers from a keg right next to the cement laundry tub is just on the freeway side of the retaining wall.

Miraculously, the University Motel still stands.
