Default Gilbert giving NBA champ rings to janitors, food vendors, police at The Q

Nice gesture to the little guys who made it happen too.

"From LeBron James down to the guy who sold you a hot dog on a Wednesday night at The Q, the entire Cavaliers' family is getting a 2016 NBA championship ring.

Majority owner Dan Gilbert and his partners decided to present rings to more than 1,000 full and part-time employees throughout the Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization, employees who've been fitted for rings told cleveland.com.

A spokesman for the Cavs confirmed the information but declined to comment."

According to this article, Gilbert may be buying a few more rings in the near future. If you can read French, our local paper LaPresse mentioned Gilbert getting richer by 400 million on account of Mitch Garber selling one of his online casinos to Chinese interests for 4.4 billion bucks. Gilbert had a 10 percent stake in this and thanked Garber last week a coupla minutes after the transaction happened.

Pawn Stars is suddenly flooded with 1000 championship rings. Pays out $10 apiece, tells the camera that they are highly collectable, and has lame interludes with his family members between segments.

Thanks Canuck! That is a win-win for Detroit..... Gilbert has a few hundred million more to invest in the city, and the Canadian government has more money for the Gordy Howe Bridge....

No problem, Gistok. Question on a lot of people 's minds is whether our new friendly neighborhood billionaire "Mitch Garber" will be a stakeholder in the Expos comeback to Montreal. Some of the Bronfman family are involved but Garber apart from his other talents was also a sports commentator on local radio.

Total nonsense, Gilbert is already trying to ramrod legislation through to avoid taxation on his investments. How is this going to help Detroit citizens in the outlying regions of the green zone? It's not. Another scam to help the wealthy get wealthier.

Rings for "everyone" regardless of the job status and their role in the organization? Neat-- but I'm surprised that Mr. Gilbert would embrace this form of "socialism", lol.

I'm sorry.... "when did I mention he should be helping Detroit citizens outside the green zone"? So far all that he and Ilitch have done has been within the within the downtown/midtown area.... and yes with hefty tax breaks. No one is arguing that!

Something that is not lost on me is the fact that if there weren't so many poor folks around, the filthy rich would not look so filthy rich. It's the common folks' fault, not the other way around. There.

If he's really giving the same ring that the players get to everyone in the organization, that's a lot of scratch. Yet, somehow it still appears to me to diminish the ring. It's only in recent years that teams started extending further in the organization those who receive them i.e. front office people, trainers, etc. and not just players. Some other item, ie. a watch or medallion, could have been given out. You can't blame a guy making minimum wage if he sells his thousand dollar ring.
On another note, a lot of my respect and admiration for Gilbert went out the window when I read he hosted a Trump fundraiser.

I thought Gilbert walked out of Trump’s Detroit Economic Club speech a while back.
So is he firmly ride or die with the party’s choice now? Not that he would endorse Clinton.

Well, if avoiding taxes through legal means bothers you, why don't you petition Congress to change the laws? I take all legal means to avoid taxes. So I imagine you hate me.

First off Ray, it isn't a law, yet. Secondly, if it passes, it will make tax exempt, forever, the big 4, Gilbert, Ilitch, Penske, and Moroun. Thirdly, when you start sticking it to the taxpayers of Detroit, @ the level these guys will, you'll make the list.

Trust me, those rings he's giving out while a nice gesture, aren't the same as the players, coaches, etc.. They won't have as many diamonds if any at all, and probably are a few notches below in quality.

Our country is in horrible shape because of this "participation trophy" mentality.

It really is amazing that folks feel that they should chime in and voice their opinion on what bonus Dan Gilbert should or should not give any of his employees. The Cleveland Cavaliers are a privately company. They have the freedom to give any bonus for success he wants to whom ever and the recipient is free to do with it whatever they choose.

Freedom is a wonderfull thing. It's a shame that some people think that it should be used to tell everyone else how to live their lives. Whatever happen to 'mind your own business' ?
