Yahoo is an internet, advertising, and media company -- none of which exist in any meaningful way in Detroit. There are a few agencies that cater to the automakers; not even enough media to adequately cover local news; practically zero internet. Which is to say no, at least not to Detroit.

If Gilbert wins the bid for Yahoo look for Yahoo to open a small office downtown, mostly for Gilbert's convenience. [[I think they may already have a tiny ad sales office in Birmingham, or somewhere.) If we're lucky they'll hire a few operations people and engineers. That is unless Gilbert moves to California himself.

I'd love to be wrong, but let's be realistic.

    Makes sense to me.

Yahoo should still come here if he wins out. Force entirely new industries to come to Detroit. Auto-biz stuff around SE Michigan has atrophied for decades.

Why would a company like Yahoo want to leave California for SE Michigan?

    Pls. make the business case.

I'm not saying you can't but it needs to be made.

One can make the case that the 'business case' for moving automobile manufacturing from the Midwest to the south was right to work laws and reduced employment costs.

What is the business case for moving a silicon valley company to Detroit?

Employment costs? Housing costs? Office costs?

Is California like Detroit for automobiles a very high employment /cost of living area and Yahoo could pay their employees much less in Detroit than in Silicon Valley?

As I've said many times before, I think DG's acquisition has a play on autonomous vehicles or connectivity at the very least. CA can't do it without us and we can't do it without them. In the meantime, we've lost plenty of automotive engineers to the west coast. Time to poach some of theirs and yes, thier standard of living would be boosted by miles.

There is no case, other than wishful thinking. I love the optimism, but some cost of living differences are not going to be enough for companies like Yahoo and talent that works at companies like Yahoo to come to Michigan. At least not yet. Maybe one day we'll wisen up and stop blocking companies like Tesla, and have a few Yahoo offices here. Baby steps.

According to past comments by DG and other "insiders" it's going to me mostly housing space in the building, so there won't be any major corporation taking up space for several thousand employees in the development.

Pretty disappointed that Bedrock has not announced anything since telling us we should expect renderings by the end of April.

    Maybe there's nothing to announce?

Received this email at work today...

    Good afternoon Detroit,

Please be advised of the following road closures tomorrow, Friday, October 28, 2016 from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. due to a press conference in front of One Campus Martius.

Could this be some Hudson news?

Last year at this time, they had a press conference to announce a new parade float in the same location...just saying.

[But I hope they announce a 200 story tower on the Hudson's site]

    Well here some news:

"DAN GILBERT PLANS TO BUILD A 225 STORY BUILDING WITH 10 TOP CORPORATE BUSINESSES OCCUPYING IT."

Maybe it will be a float of the rendering of the new building on Hudson's Block and that's how they will "make" the announcement.

Don't let the Ilitches and Gores monopolize all the news with arena, possible team move, practice facilities, etc.

Better to be reading about one block on Woodward than three near the MC Casino.

*Three blocks that the developer vacated before "redeveloping."

Does that brick building center front in the Crain's photo look like it has a lean to the right compared to everything else, or is that just a lens fart?

60 stories would be quite the statement. But I wonder how they will utilize that site for the 60 stories. I highly doubt it would take up the entire footprint at that height, as that would be a monster building.

I see it too but I think it's just a lens fart.
