Default Same old police - takes 10 minutes to get to a bank robbery

This article cracked me up. You had an off duty Wayne County police officer basically take down a bank robber single handedly and it took 600 minutes for the police to arrive. Right at Southfield/Warren Ave Chase bank.

Time to start a recall petition on Gabe Leland.

The article doesn't make clear if police were notified, by silent alarm or otherwise, at the time the incident occurred or after.

I too did not see where the teller had called the Detroit Police and was waiting. Irregardless, KUDOS to Mr. Beydoun for his quick thinking and for stepping up to the plate! No one got hurt, the perp is in custody. Well done!

    ...

In Arabic, Beydoun told the Chase employee that he was an armed Wayne County Sheriff’'s officer and to stay calm and lock the doors....

Wayne County Deputy Chief Mike Jaafar said the incident illustrates the importance of incorporating minorities in police departments.

“It’s a testament to being a diverse police department and reflecting the community we serve,” Jaafar said. “The officer being able to communicate with the teller in Arabic worked in our favor to catch the criminal. They were able to speak to each other while the criminal didn’t know what was going on.”...
    That needed to be emphasized.

    Maybe he meant 600 seconds.

Ah, that is right in my neighborhood! It was undoubtedly 600 seconds which
felt like 600 minutes at the time. Thanks to all of the retired police, off-duty
sheriff's officers, ex-Marines, angels, little old ladies, and all who help watch
    over that area.

So what would have happened if the robber was also multi lingual ?

Shoot the guy before he could lock the door?

Not your reply but the quoted part was pretty lame for a law enforcement agency to say.

    A diverse force in a diverse community,what a concept.
