From reading the comments, 1 son left a few years ago and the other was running the store and now is caring for his dad. It's sad, but I completely understand. If dad was anything like my father, he was a taskmaster and maybe it's a relief to them to close.

My parents lived just down the street from Vince's until 1990, and we ate a lot of really good pizzas that Vince made.

I thought at first that Vince's on Springwells was the subject. Glad it wasn't. But always sorry to see any quality joint move on. Family joints are getting harder to find -- and news just aren't springing up with all the air being sucked out by chains. Vote with you pocketbook, please.

And visit the other Vince's if you haven't.

Food service is just plain hard work and if it's a family business, it overtakes the family a lot of the time. My parents owned a Nugget and it was hard work. Someone always had to be there [[we were open 24 hours) and it was just tough. My mother worked day shift, dad worked afternoons and would do midnights if necessary. I was working in the kitchen when I was 8 or 9, my brothers bused tables starting around the same age; I imagine the sons' lives were similar.

45 years is quite an achievement. Respect and congratulations to the whole family.

It will be sad for the neighborhood if the new owners of the building choose to pursue the soulless beer/wine/liquor/sell some potato chips party store format.

Like Wesley said, don't forget to dine at the other Vince's on Springwells. Great place that has made it past 50 years.

    I'm left wondering if this:

Played any part in them choosing to hang up the towel?

Definitely sad to see them go. Without a doubt another unneeded blow to 48205.

^^^ Perhaps... of all the areas of Detroit, I try to avoid 48205 -- the violence seems to just hang in the air and I'm hardly shy OR green to city life! The underlying, ever-present stress wears you out, incrementally. And this business had to see how the area deteriorated. Good times. NOT.

Maybe a new [[and 'eh, much 'needed') marijuana dispensary can take up shop in the building...

I did, also. All the more reason to make sure SW Detroit Vince's continues to get our patronage.

You can't rule it out, but I know they've been there a long time. My old man grew up in that area and remembers being a kid when they opened. They were opened many hours & many years, 45 years. I think it's more so the kids don't want to keep on with the parents business.
