    Default Traverse City Flash Mob Round Dance

    Idle No More Flash Mob Round Dance in Traverse City, see the little boy learning to drum, see the man with the knee walker joining the line. Hey! I know those folks!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...v=Mv5tuYQYV7w#!

    Come on, let's really get a big line going at Fairlane Mall, Center Court, 6:30 pm December 27. We can do it, for our Earth and all beings.

    Round Dance this way is really easy, hold hands with the people on each side, do the locomotion with your hands round and round, and just step along sideways, up and down to the beat of the drum.

    Default Did anyone here go to Fairlane this evening?

    Peaceful Round Dance, beautiful happy people, my favorite music in all the world. Mall security were hanging about the center court looking nervous, we were at an end court near Macy's. They got there and just watched, it was very peaceful. I think they enjoyed the show.

    Default Please Share Your Noon Meal with the Spirits on New Year Day, for Our Mother Earth

    From Susan Prentice Hallett: [[A VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE!)

    Mary Moose, Elder, explained to us that she hoped we understood her English, because she grew up speaking Ojibwe and Cree. She told us she had a dream in which she was visited by an elder who has walked on, the late Tom Stillday from Obaashiing in Red Lake Nation. She told us how in her dream Tom told her we need to help people in Canada, and he suggested everyone, all anishinaabe, all indigenous people put out a spirit plate on the same day at the same time to awaken the spirits, to ask for their help. Mary relayed that we should choose a date and time, and do it every year on that same day.

    So the people in the talking circle decided to do this at noon on New Years Day...

    The instruction was that you may offer your feast food to any of the four elements: You can place the spirit plate in a water body, in a fire, in the air by hanging it in a tree, or on the earth.

    Mary and other elders will be speaking for the food. She asks everyone to do this, wherever you are. A facebook event has been created for this coming New Years Day, the event is called Idle No More! Anishinaabe Calling Around The World!

    Please share with everyone!

    APTN News is reporting that Stephen Harper will meet with "First Nations Chiefs" on January 11th - more information soon

    Prime Minister Stephen Harper announces meeting with First Nations leadership

    4 January 2013
    Ottawa, Ontario
    Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on a planned meeting with a delegation of First Nations leaders coordinated by the Assembly of First Nations:"On January 24, 2012, I was pleased to participate in the historic Crown-First Nations Gathering. On that day, the Government of Canada and First Nations committed to making progress in the following areas:

    • Improving relationships and strong partnerships between Canada and First Nations respectful of Aboriginal and Treaty rights as recognized and affirmed in the Constitution Act, 1982;
    • Building effective, appropriate, transparent and fully accountable governance structures;
    • Empowering success of individuals through access to education and opportunity;
    • Enabling strong, sustainable, and self-sufficient communities;
    • Creating conditions to accelerate economic development opportunities and maximize benefits for all Canadians;
    • Respecting the role of First Nations' culture and language in our history and future.

    "The Government and First Nations committed at the Gathering to maintaining the relationship through an ongoing dialogue that outlines clear goals and measures of progress and success. While some progress has been made, there is more that must be done to improve outcomes for First Nations communities across Canada.
    "It is in this spirit of ongoing dialogue that, together with Minister Duncan, I will be participating in a working meeting with a delegation of First Nations leaders coordinated by the Assembly of First Nations on January 11, 2013. This working meeting will focus on two areas flowing from the Gathering: the treaty relationship and aboriginal rights, and economic development.
    "The Government of Canada and First Nations have an enduring historic relationship based on mutual respect, friendship and support. The Government of Canada is committed to strengthening this relationship."

    Default Round Dance, Anyone?

    Dancing is prayer. Circles are prayer. Joining hands in prayer while in a circle, creates unity and strength.

    Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 5
    "But first, let us join hands and pray."
    -- Starleaf, SHINNECOCK
    Where two or more human beings joined together for a common cause, the helpers and the Grandfathers will show up to help. When our Indian people come together, the Elders say, "Always pray first, do a ceremony and ask the Creator to be with us and to help us. We can never pray enough." The Elders also say, "pray in a circle because the Creator made things in circles. When we stand in a circle and pray together, a sacred hoop will form above the people. This is the spiritual way."

    Default Police in Broomfield, CO get rough with IDLE NO MORE

    Colorado seems to have a heart of darkness. Mass killings, shootouts with barricaded gunman resulting in four bodies inside, no reports on whether police fire killed them, and now this violent attack on a peaceful protest, with women being manhandled in the name of the law. This happened at the Flatirons Mall, with the Round Dance broken up, all participants herded out into the cold, and then the police went through the mall evicting anyone who "looked Indian."

    Default This is the most important teaching

    Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 7
    "When we become hollow bones there is no limit to what the Higher Powers can do in and through us in spiritual things."
    -- Frank Fools Crow, LAKOTA
    If we want to be of maximum use to the Creator, we must ready ourselves to do so. if we are to become a channel for His purposes, we must prepare ourselves to do so. If we have resentment, fear, selfishness, or anger, we are not hollow bones. We must be rid of these things. We must change ourselves. We must ask for forgiveness for ourselves and forgive our brothers and sisters. We must keep our insides clean. We cannot use our power in a good way when we have blockages such as hate, judgement, and envy. When we are free of these things the Higher Powers can use us beyond our wildest imagination. Then we can really help ourselves and help our people. Only when we are hollow bones can we have an effect on the world.
    Oh Great Spirit, remove from me the things that block my usefulness to You. Remove from my day all thinking that is out of harmony with Your ways. Grant me Your peace and allow me to function as a hollow bone.

    Default Today is the Day!

    Thousands will be out to support Idle No More. A meeting between the Canadian First Nations leaders and the UK and Canadian leaders is scheduled. We will be watching to see what takes place.

    To support, put down some tobacco with prayers for our Earth and all who need her to survive.

    To put down tobacco, take a small amount of tobacco in your left hand, hold it close to your heart as you walk outside to place it at the base of a tree. If you think of the things that will help the Earth and all who need her as you carry the tobacco, those thoughts will be carried to the Spirits. We look to our ancestors for their help and support.

    Default Statement -- Chief Theresa Spence RE: Meeting called by Harper

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_O1wRIvDYA

    And Five things to know about the meeting:

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/stor...r-general.html

    The plan released earlier this week calls for two meetings.

    • The first is a meeting between First Nations leaders and the prime minister. It will take place Friday afternoon in a massive building known as Langevin Block opposite Parliament Hill that houses the Prime Minister's Office and staff. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and National Chief Sean Atleo of the Assembly of First Nations are expected to open the meeting. Minister of Aboriginal Affairs John Duncan and Treasury Board president Tony Clement are scheduled to attend for the government side.
    • The second meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at Rideau Hall. It's described as a "ceremonial" meeting between Governor General David Johnston and First Nations leaders

    What do First Nations want?

    Many of the goals expressed Thursday by the Manitoba chiefs and the AFN were overarching and amorphous: "fundamental transformation, implementing the treaty relationship on a treaty by treaty and and nation by nation relationship" and "new arrangements."
    But there are also a number of specific suggestions. Among them:

    • Rescinding the environmental provisions, such as changes to fisheries and to protection of rivers and streams in two omnibus budget bills.
    • Action on missing aboriginal women, estimated by some to number over 2,000.
    • A school in every native community.
    • Mandatory education in all schools about treaty rights.
    • Removal of the two per cent cap on aboriginal education funding.
    • Mechanisms to eventually replace the Indian Act.
    • Better arrangements about resource revenue sharing on aboriginal territories.

    Default Remember the Prophecies of the Seven Fires?

    I am reposting the Seventh Fire Prophecy from Post #71 of this thread. Some say we have been in the Seventh Fire and are approaching the time of decision. Idle No More just may be the strong representation of the movement toward the change that is needed. I have been waiting most of the last three decades to see how this would happen.

    The Seventh Prophet:

    The Seventh Prophet that came to the people long ago was said to be different from the other prophets. He was young and had a strange light in his eyes.

    He said, " In the time of the Seventh Fire, New People will emerge. They will retrace their steps to find what was left by the trail. Their steps will take them to the ELDERS who they will ask to guide them on their journey. But many of the ELDERS will have fallen asleep. They will awaken to this new time with nothing to offer. Some of the ELDERS will be silent out of fear. Some of the ELDERS will be silent because no one will ask anything of them. The New People will have to be careful in how they approach the ELDERS. The task of the New People will not be easy.

    If the New People will remain strong in their Quest, the Water Drum of the Midewiwin Lodge will again sound its voice. There will be a Rebirth of the Anishinabe Nation and a rekindling of old flames. The Sacred Fire will again be lit.

    It is at this time that the Light Skinned race will be given a choice between two roads. If they choose the right road, then the Seventh Fire will light the Eighth and final Fire, an eternal Fire of peace, love, brotherhood and sisterhood. If the light skinned race makes the wrong choice of roads, the destruction which they brought with them in coming to this country will come back at them and cause much suffering and death to all the Earth's people. "

    My take:
    We are now in the time of the Seventh Fire, and heaven help us all. Our preparations have been slow and difficult, and seem so inadequate for the task at hand. Clearly we have much yet to do. Although no time is specified, looking at the world events and the potential of economic collapse or global war, it seems the prophet’s vision is coming true. As you can see from the last paragraph, the biggest challenge will be to influence the light skinned race to make a choice for peace and love. Suffering lies ahead for all if we do not succeed. Please Gichemanido we have the time.

    From askaboutit.com
    Traditional Mide people from other Nations have interpreted the two roads that face the Light Skinned race as the road to technology and the other to spiritualism. They feel that the road to technology represents a continuation of Head-Long rush to technological development. This is the road that has lead to modern society, to a damaged and seared Earth. Could it be that the road to technology represents a rush to destruction? The road to Spirituality represents the slower path that traditional Native People have traveled and are now seeking again. The Earth is not scorched on this trail. The grass is still growing there.

    The prophet of the Fourth Fire spoke of a time when "two Nations will join to make a Mighty Nation". He was speaking of the coming of the Light Skinned race and the face of brotherhood that the Light Skinned Brother could be wearing. It is obvious from the history of this country that this was not the face worn by the Light Skinned race as a whole. That the Mighty Nation spoken of in the Fourth Fire has never been formed.

    If the Natural People of the Earth could just wear the face of brotherhood, we might be able to deliver our society from the road to destruction. Could we make the two roads that today represents two clashing world views come together to form a mighty Nation? Could a Nation be formed that is guided by respect for all living things? Are we the New People of the Seventh Fire?

    From Lindala:
    Today, the Ojibwe make up the second largest tribal nation in North American with a total of 20 bands in the United States scattered from Michigan to Montana and over 130 bands from western Quebec to eastern British Columbia in Canada.

    There are four Ojibwe communities, all with federal recognition...located in the Upper Peninsula: Bahweting [[Sault Ste Marie), Ketegitigaaning [[Lac Vieux Desert near Watersmeet), Gnoozhekaaning [[Bay Mills), and Gichi-wiikwedong [[Keweenaw Bay). A fifth reservation community exists just west of Escanaba and is home to the Potawatomi of the Hannahville Indian Community.

    Cultural perseverance and Anishinaabe language preservation is foremost on the minds of today's tribal leaders [[elected or recognized). This is what Benton-Banai identifies as the Seventh Fire. “The prophet of the Seventh Fire of the Ojibway spoke of an Osh-ki-bi-ma-di-zeeg [[New People) that would emerge to retrace their steps to find what was left by the trail.' [[111)

    Many believe that our people of today are those New People as more and more the young are seeking wisdom from elders who still have knowledge, who have not forgotten the old ways. It is believed that if the New People “remain strong in their quest, the Waterdrum of the Midewiwin lodge will again sound its voice. There will be a rebirth of the Anishinaabe nation.” [[Benton-Banai 93)
