Silver Cinemas, at Macomb Mall, but its not really a dollar anymore except on Tues. I think they're 1.50 or 1.75? Then its half price on Tuesday, so its still cool. Clean, pleasant environment, I like it.

Movies 16 on Dequindre & 12 Mile is a dollar theatre.

It was inside Universal Mall, but it may be a free-standing theatre now [[I'm not sure if they started the demolition yet).

Allen Park still has a cheapie, and they've never disappointed.

Dunno if they're a buck though...hell even "two-buck chuck" wine succumbed to inflation.

Not a dollar, but a dollar off... It is $2.50 at the Civic in old Farmington during this summer's street-scaping.

Reddog, it used to be every Thursday at the State Wayne was 99 cents / $1. That was back in 2007 when I graduated high school.

Lowell, the Civic deserves the plug. It faced the wrecking ball and came back from the brink. The story behind the rescue bears repeating, but not being a resident, I don't recall the details. ... Something about a private/public co-ownership? Very foggy on the whole thing. Maybe you could fill us in on the backstory.

I was in Farmington last night, ate at Mr. Shwarma's on Farmington Road. A+ on the food and the waitress was a cutie.

Do they still have the wood-floored balcony in the Farmington Civic? I remember sitting up there at the height of the wedgie shoe fashion in the 1970s and you could barely hear the movie amidst all the clomping up and down the aisles.

Here's the web site for the Farmington Civic. I was there Monday night for the Star Trek movie.

I don't know how the Penn is anymore, but the last time a went to it, about 2 yrs ago, in the summer, it just reeked of mildew. It was all over the atmosphere in the entire theatre. It was so pungent that you could taste it in addition to smelling it.

I never experienced any problems at the Penn. You may be more sensitive to it than I am. I've been going to the Penn regularly for the last couple of years. The movies are well attended.

The city of Farmington bought the Civic some years back thinking, correctly IMO, that it was essential to the historic downtown's essence and viability. $800K was put into the Civic redoing the lobby, all rest rooms, adding an elevator and other handicap access features. It is also used for occasional stage productions and other purposes. The goal of breaking even has been largely met and, overall, it is a success story. Being walking distance from it I go there at least 30-40 times a year.

There are two screens, a larger main floor screen with the former balcony [which I prefer] being the second. Behind it is a small museum area. Concession prices are modest, about half of a first-run theater. Currently it is play the latest Star Trek, The Taking of Pelham 123 and night at the Museum. I saw the last two there, but had to see Star Trek on the big-big screen elsewhere.

Sometime in the future I will do a webisode on historic old Farmington.

I had a dollar theatre on my way home from work. After a hot day in the shop, and the summer traffic jams until 6 PM, I would just pull up to the cool air conditioned theatre, watch an almost first run movie, and wait for the traffic to clear.
Now, it's a Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I'll truly miss it.

You must be referring to the Hampton in Rochester Hills. I used to go there frequently. I would recommend the Cinemark in Warren which is usually $1.50. Formerly a part of Universal Mall as someone mentioned above. It's still operating, very clean, and actually better than the Hampton ever was.
