    Default Truman Capote's Black and White Ball - Detroit Band

    From a 1996 Vanity Fair article:

    The date [[November 28, 1966, the Monday after Thanksgiving), the time [[10 o'clock),the place [[the Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom), and the theme. Inspired by MyFair Lady's breathtaking Ascot scene, costumed by Cecil Beaton entirely inblack and white.

    PeterDuchin's upbeat music, including show tunes by several composers and lyricistspresent—Alan Jay Lerner, Comden and Green, Harold Arlen—swept people out oftheir seats and onto the dance floor. Duchin's band traded off with another,funkier group, the all-black Soul Brothers of Detroit.

    Question - does anyone have any information on this band, the Soul Brothers of Detroit?

    The Funk Brothers often went by the name "Soul Brothers" when recording or performing under Earl Van Dyke's leadership. Neither he nor Barry Gordy liked the sound or connotations of the word "funk".
