Default As of today if you own a drone, you must register it.

What are your thoughts....what's next register our camera's, phones...etc As a photographer and videographer, this is just another infringement on my rights. Its bad enough there is a 5 mile no fly zone around airports.

I'm curious as to how much compliance there will be. Anybody else young enough to remember the skoff-lawry when the FCC wanted everyone to register their CB radios when that craze hit in the late 70's?

Per the graphic above I think I should be able to declare a no fly zone above my property and shoot down any drone that ventures within pellet gun range [[insert Yosemite Sam graphic here).

The mandatory registration program applies to drones that weigh between 0.55 and 55 pounds.
Heh. They don't weigh anything while they're flying.

Are we thinking like an attorney yet?

The requirement may run afoul of previous legislation from congress that forbids regulation on unmanned "recreational" aircraft.

    Here's a good summary:
    http://jrupprechtlaw.com/the-problem...e-registration

As to rifle registration - depends on the rifle and state. If the lower receiver is capable of fully automatic fire, then it needs to be registered with a tax stamp. Otherwise it's functionally no different than any other semi-automatic hunting rifle. You can slip the lower into a really nasty looking frame with all kinds of doo-dads attached to it, and it's still functionally no different than a hunting rifle.

Other than that, gun registration laws vary state to state.
