Default Changes Afoot at Speedway Gas Station Downtown

I have lately noticed a chain link fence around the Speedway Gas Station at E. Jefferson and I-375. Anyone know what's the plan for the site? Also, can't we have at least one nice gas station somewhere near downtown [[I know, there's that Mobil in Midtown, and that little gas station on 1st north of Fort)?

Alternatively, if someone is planning a 20+ story building for this site, I will sit down and be quiet.

Maybe it's just time to change the tanks? It is odd to have a gas station in any major city's downtown, the real estate is normally too expensive, but I doubt they would be closing. That place is a goldmine just based on the food and snacks they sell.

I wonder how much money is lost every week they're closed. I also wonder how long employees may be laid off. But they'll open up again eventually.

They have been fixing the tanks. That is typically my go-to gas station and they have been closed since the beginning of October. Originally they were supposed to reopen in mid-November but that has clearly been pushed back. I hope they end up improving the main building eventually as well.

Management at the company I worked for in downtown Detroit told us not to fill up at this station because several employees had been carjacked there. Last Christmas a security guard in a Santa suit from the Greektown Casino was a victim and fired his weapon. Because the station is right next to I-375, they are gone in the blink of an eye. I don't think this problem is as prevalent at the gas station along Jefferson further north. Word to wise.

I live a stones throw away and almost exclusively use this gas station on a semi daily basis. While what you say may be true I always used it due to the fact that it is pretty clean and always felt secure.

That has to be one of the safest gas stations in the entire city of Detroit. Well lit and usually busy with activity [[i.e. witnesses).

Sounds like the usual rules apply. Probably ok 8-5. Avoid after dark.

I'm actually through there pretty often at night. Never had any more problem than a very occasional slight hassle with the homeless. Usually pretty busy and cool. Of course, there might also not be a lot of interest in jacking an old Focus.

Their coffee is not bad for gas station coffee either.
