Default Today 90th Anniv. State/Fillmore Theatre & 40th Anniv. Preservation Detroit [[Wayne)

    http://preservationdetroit.org/homep...-the-fillmore/

The Francis Palms Building opened this month in 1925 along with the State Theatre. Both the 12 story office tower and 3000 seat theatre were designed in an Italian Renaissance style by Detroit's own architect... C. Howard Crane. The State Theatre was renamed the Palms-State in 1937, the Palms in 1949, the State once again in 1982, and the Fillmore in 2007.... although still owned by Forbes.

Preservation Wayne.... now Preservation Detroit was founded by James Coburn et al in 1975 at WSU... when they organized to save the [[still standing) David Mackensie House [[former home of WSU first president of that name), a historic Queen Anne style Victorian house that was going to be torn down for that most utilitarian of all purposes [[besides parking).... a storm drain.

Also the evening will celebrate the effort of Detroit's patron saint of historic preservation... Chuck Forbes... who will be in attendance. Although now retired and in his upper 80s, his family still owns many well maintained historic parcels [[now run by his adult children) in the Theatre District.

May you live to be 100 Chuck!!
