Just what DPS needs about now! From a situation where a student was entrusted to the Fredrick Douglass Academy High School. Pugh continues to justify his actions.

What Pugh did is wrong, but the settlement amount of this lawsuit is just ridiculous. The "kid" was 18 years old and old enough to stand up for himself and tell Pugh to get lost. How is DPS responsible for the actions of an unpaid mentor? They're just the target because that's where the money is as Pugh is probably still teetering on bankruptcy.

DPS needs better attorneys. And better schools for the kids.

The student's lawsuit says that the DPS was negligent in putting Pugh in a place where he had mentoring access to boys; that DPS had been warned and that witnesses will testify that they had warned the DPS administrators.

But DPS accepted the current diversity narrative about putting gay men in contact with boys. And, as well, Pugh was celebrated by nearly every media for being openly out and elected to Detroit's second-highest office. What WAS DPS supposed to do?

What about the Boy Scouts? Maybe they will be sued sometime soon.

What a load of horseshit. The overwhelming majority of gay men and women who teach, mentor, administer, and work in schools in other roles have never abused a student. Sadly, of course, there are also a number of cases of sexual abuse of students by heterosexual school personnel, which are by far the majority of such cases. But this incident is somehow a failure of a "diversity narrative"?

The failure here is Pugh's. To the extent that DPS is liable it is because they apparently had been warned about Pugh's behavior and did not take action, not because they hired a gay man. This is not the fault of his sexual orientation, and certainly not the fault of the millions of others who are same-sex oriented, it is the fault of the man himself and his character.

^^^Point well stated. We even had a run of female staff engaged in inappropriate behaviors with boys initially getting the 'wink-wink' by the media etc. as supposedly such activities are a teen boys dream? Thankfully, the last few cases have had the book thrown after these women. For certain Pugh's character and judgement is questionable.

'Failure of the Diversity Narrative'? Well that's what the court is being asked to decide.

Some demand statistical outcomes that 'look like America'. Justin Trudeau has said his cabinet will reflect the diversity of his nation. Disproportionate suspensions of black children in schools is 'proof' of racism, as would be too many traffice stops. DWB.

When we judge on race, we are not judging on competence. We are demanding diveristy for diversity's sake. We didn't ask to ignore criteria #2 or #13, but we did distort the human resource process.

An administrator who would step forward and criticize a gay man today is presumed to be discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. The bar for proving that he was a problem was raised.

If you've ever managed staff in a diverse workplace, you know that diversity is valued -- and that to criticize members of a minority group can be going against the grain.
